Hey all, I've only had the game for about 2 weeks but I'm really getting right into it. I've spent more time designing than playing (on ps4) but was wanting to have a crack at doing a Lidar course with my old golf course (The Victoria Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia). So I researched on here and then went and downloaded the following files but they don't look much like anything in Chad's tutorial. Before I buy the game on pc in order to try and upload this course, can anyone tell me if I'm on the right track with these types of files please? Also, I assume there's no way of linking a ps4 account to PC so all my course designs are in the one place? Can't hurt to ask.

The file type you're looking for should have either LAZ or LAS as an extension.

As for those files, there are some Aussie Lidar designers here on TGC who might have some info for you as to where to get the correct file types. Did you try Country Data Sites?

I used the site I found in another thread that Chad advised but I’ll look into your link now. Thanks again

I've looked into this a bit further and am I correct in saying that in order to get LAS files, I need to get the point cloud data? If that's correct, then I think I can't get what I'm looking for as there's hardly any point cloud data in my state (see below). Figured I'd ask so that I don't waste any more time trying to get files I never can. Is anyone able to confirm I was on the right track please? Thanks.

Good news - you are on the right track, you need the point cloud data for the tool. Bad news - you are correct that Victoria for the most part does not have the necessary data available.
Its possible another site has the data available, but the ELVIS site is where I have looked previously.

Yeah I'm coming to the unfortunate realisation that my course can't be done with Lidar I've tried every possible website I could find. I'll tackle it with OSM instead I guess. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help. Hey Walter, since there seems to be a .SHP file available I noticed there is a program to convert .SHP files into .LAS files here SAFE which has a free trial period. I did not investigate further, do not know how good the converted files are or whether Chad's tool will use them, but I just though to let you know about it Note in edit: Actually I have LasTools, which has a Shp to Las converter program. If you can point me to that .shp file you found, or send it to me I will see if I can convert it for you.

No mate - it didn't work for us unfortunately. OK, thanks for letting me know. I was looking at the same data for Melbourne. Such a frustration there is no data readily available for this part of Australia when we have some of the best courses in the world.
