Sometimes I get thinking very hypothetically and come up with some crazy ideas that I know will never happen but whatever... this is one of those ideas.
I love TGC I love designing golf courses I love management games like Sim City and Roller Coaster Tycoon
Introducing The Golf Club Tycoon
Now, I did a little bit of research on the subject and it looks like there was a "Golf Resort Tycoon" made in the early 2000's. I'm going for a more souped up version of that using the course designer we have now with the PGA Tour license to introduce the goal of building a golf club sufficient enough to host a major on the PGA Tour schedule.
Players start out with limited funds and land area to use (depending on the difficulty they choose). The starting funds might be enough just to put in a trailer for a clubhouse and a simple 9-hole pitch and putt or you could take out a loan to put in some nicer elements right away. The key is you are actually designing and renovating every aspect of the course using the designer, but it takes money to make longer fairways, add tee boxes, more pin locations, hazards, planting, and sculpting.
You can take out ads to promote your course and the more amenities you add and the better you make the course (in length, quality, and playability), the more people will come, and obviously you make more money.
You must also hire staff to run your operations and take care of your course if you want things to run smoothly otherwise you risk delays and lower club ratings
Once your club reaches certain milestones, you start getting tournament host contracts, where by signing, you have a certain amount of time to get your course ready to host the tournament by completing the listed requirements. The more prestigious the tournament, the more difficult the requirements, but the higher the payout.
You keep adding and renovating, beefing up your clubhouse with nice restaurants and bars, add luxurious pro player housing for those big PGA Tournaments all the way to hosting major tournaments (or whatever your end goal is)

Probably pretty similar. I should check that one out. Didn't come up in the brief research I did but I do like Sid Meier's stuff. I just think it would be really cool to combine those sim business-like games with full control of the environment that the designer gives us. And also be able to apply the real world feel that the PGA Tour license would give it.

I was thinking of that exact same game. I for one would buy an updated and more realistic version rather than the cartoony though enjoyable Sim Golf.

This would be a very cool game.
Just curious, do you guys play any of the Planet Coaster / Planet Zoo games? They are really well done, I like them.

I’ve heard of Planet Coaster, I got into Ultimate Ride Coaster Deluxe for a while. That game had something going for it.

Right I think that’s kind of what I’m going for, the in depth business management stuff with the added complex world customization that the designer gives us. Those old games are cool but really lack the full immersion factor when you’re just plopping stuff down in squares

If you liked Rollercoaster Tycoon, you need to look at Planet Coaster. It is really what today's version of RC Tycoon should be, its well done, and supported.
If only this thread had been last week... it was just on sale over the weekend for $11, I think. I maxed out my entire DLC collection for it.
Didn't mean to derail your topic, just, its worth it, if you like those type games, to take a look at it!

I have Planet Coaster. I would play it more if I had more time and the controls/camera weren't so fiddly.

Been a long time since I've posted over here, as a former TGC course designer I occasionally have a look at the courses you guys are making plus I dip into this section to see what golf games folks are talking about. The funny thing is the game described by lessthanbread is very much along the lines of the game I am currently working on myself. I plan to include almost all the elements in that description, plus a fair few things not included on there. I'm not quite in a position to show anything as I'm making changes to my visuals atm, so until I'm happy in that regard I will keep a little quiet. I do hope to build a community of interested folks (probably on discord) in the not too distant future, so if the admin don't mind I'd really like to post that on these forums as the awesome folks on here are exactly the people I want to get input from. Whilst the game is a long way off full release I'm hoping to get it into early access this year so people can start creating awesome things and helping me build the best game I can. Anyways, wasn't going to post on here just yet but couldn't resist given this thread 😂. I really hope you are all doing well, many friends on here I've lost touch with as I've been busy working on my game rather than playing TGC, hope you and your families are all safe!

I went to port/upgrade Tye Dunes in TGC2 but I felt it needed elevation to take it to the next level (I always hated that the river in land is at sea level) and it needed sloping/running water for that to work. I don't suppose that works in 2019? Really appreciate that support though, I know you'll have really valuable input! My game will happen, the question mark is the timescale with just me working on it and a full time job. When I feel comfortable sharing the current progress then I'll open up with some more details. But I have big plans in terms of course design, playing, AI, course/clubhouse management, building, and more. Also lets face it, it will probably have a version of Tye Dunes 😂 Glad to see you are still about and designing... although I notice your name isn't on the list for the current design contest? I could never resist those 😁
