This is the Black Diamond Ranch Quarry Course in Lecanto, FL. In-game name is Black Diamond Ranch (L). Par 72, 6,982 yards from the back tees. Fairways and greens are Firm. Green speed is set to Med. Fast (154). You can play up to Fast (162), but Very Fast will make some pins lie on yellow slope. Default wind hovered around 11 mph. I recommend leaving the weather and time of day at default. LiDar course. Checkout my post in the LiDar > Works in Progress section. There was a ton of work put into this. Both quarries hand-planted. The quarry holes are 13 to 17. They have been referred to as "the best 5 consecutive holes of golf anywhere in the world." Hope you enjoy!

My late grandfather was a senior design associate with Fazio golf. He always told me this was his favorite course that he took part in. So you have no idea how cool it is to play this course. You did a really awesome job on here too.
Thank you

I unfortunately don’t know the extent of what exactly here but he typically was involved with the construction and shaping side of the design. And thank you! He would have found this so cool to see haha And again really good job on your part too. Fun course and really well done.

Hey Mike, When playing this one I was very excited with the design through 1 - 12. When walking on the 13th tee my life changed. And entered in a different world. And was trapped there untill 17th. Omg man! Playing the 18th the only thing on my mind was this thought, what in the hell just happened? Congratulations on this one and thank you for your time. Loved it! Cheers

I've had a chance to play BDR several times- and have incorporated holes 13-17 in my previous designs. I thought you did an awesome job capturing the environment of those holes. By chance did you run out of object meter?
Nice job here.

By chance did you run out of object meter? Nice job here. I did not completely run out. Being a lidar course, you're limited from the start. First import of lidar data put me at 100%. I had to cut a ton of terrain around the course just to get to around 50%. I knew from the start I had to decide what was not going to get included. Also wanted to have no lag and playable on all systems. Consoles can crash or take a very long time to load lidar courses. I couldn't incorporate the houses because there are too many. I thought it would look awkward if I did just a few in view on the front 9. It was either do a lot of them or do none. I didnt want a group in the woods. That wouldn't be correct, either. The clubhouse is admittedly half assed. Only the 18th and 9th can see any of it. I made the footprint of the clubhouse that's in view. The sheds behind the 18th are pretty close to what's actually there. I used so much plant meter on the quarries. They're the focal point of the course. It got to the point every change was taking 7 seconds to render.

Love your work on this course. I grew up in Beverly Hills, FL which borders this course. I've had the opportunity to play it in real life twice with a friend who is also on TGC and your RCR was 100% spot on in both of our memories. Would love to see other courses from our area. Skyview (Terry LaGree design: did lots of work on renovations to Black Diamond), World Woods (another Fazio design), and Juliette Falls all come to mind. Thanks for your time and effort!
Edit: Also Twisted Oaks in Beverly Hills would be a fun one to do with LIDAR. Very unlike most Florida courses, especially the back 9.

I am looking for a new LiDar to do. I started one, Scioto Country Club in Ohio, but that one is mostly buildings and a stream to build. I'll take a look at those courses, see if one has more actual course features to add.

I have a file on the shelf with the Course yardage book and a ton of pics of each hole to do a RCR, but I've been hoping someone else would step in with a good LiDar. I dont even know that you could do a good LiDar as the exhaustive storage space would come at the expense of proper landscaping/ planting.

Played this a few times this week - great, clean work with the planting and spline smoothing, you have done a superb job and have done this wonderful course justice.
