I don't know if this proposal has been already ever evaluated, but what about a contest made using a piece of ground, the same for everyone, created by the judges? I mean..the judges creates a terrain, with his ondulations, elevation changes, water (if they decides to use it)..and designers must to create a course from that. Designers should have total freedom about what theme to use, the planting and those little adjustment on terrain needed to properly address greens, tees etc (judges could decide a limit about how many feet can be changed). We could also decide together if to add some mandatory rule (about total par, template holes, driveable par 4s..and all that kind of stuff) to make more interesting the whike thing. It could be funny to see in such a different way every designer could read and interpretate the same piece of ground. As if some millionaire should be in search of the most fitting architecture for his own golf course..or if the PGA asked for a new major venue etc etc Of course..i don't know if it would be possible to compete having different consoles..but if is not possible to share the same ground all together, we could create a "triple" contest. Thoughts? >.>

I think we’ve discussed this in the past. It’s a nice idea but there are two major stumbling blocks:
1) only possible on PC. You can’t share files on Xbox or PS4 therefore the concept wouldn’t work.
2) How do you define what constitutes small sculpting? Even if you say 10ft or so, I could easily do that multiple times.
Like I say, a nice idea but I think those are the main issues.

Like I say, a nice idea but I think those are the main issues. Yeah..i think too..there are difficulties, for sure. Also, i imagined that it was not possible to share files on consoles. Is a sad thing. Anyway..it would be an interesting experiment to made. Even without an "official" contest, i mean. If someone should ever be interested in doing this thing, i would like to partecipate, really. About how many feet could be sculpted, to solve the issue i was thinking about 2 moves : 1) on first instance, some kind of gentlemen agreement to limit sculpting to the really necessary zones (tees, greens and bunkers, in short, with minimal work for fairways and everything else..using some common sense to understand when/where sculpting is to much/unnecessary)..after all..what could ever be the point, the interest in this kind of challenge if one of the main points should be broken cause no common sense? (this point sounds a bit naive, isn't? <.<) 2) Judges could place/create a certain number of unmoveables objects as mandatory obstacles to deal with (i mean..i don't know..buildings, rocks, roadways, ponds&creeks, shores, stuff like this). I think that a dozen of this objects/points well placed, could guarantee to work more or less on the same terrain. Furthermore, to help to reach this goal, a good move could be to let the judges also to decide where to place the clubhouse. This move would force all the designers to use a good portion of the same ground, sharing in some way the start and the end of the course. Anyway..it was just a thought i had todsy while i was designing my course. And, after all, i was mainly curious to know if this thing has been already ever discussed..and it seems it has been.
