Got my pre-order in after numerous (and I mean numerous) tries. Had mine in the cart at Best Buy but couldn't get past the checkout page, when I finally did it said out of stock. Checked Amazon at midnight with no luck but they were selling them on Amazon market place at the same time. Can't say there have been any games to excite me either. You'll have to let us know how PGA plays with the new controller.

Can't say there have been any games to excite me either. Yeah, this is why I decided to wait to pick one up. I'm not brand loyal, but neither system has any launch titles that do much for me. I'll get one in the Spring or whenever Horizon or Halo convince me I need one.

I was camping in the middle of nowhere when preorders went live but there was still cell coverage. Got an email from Best Buy saying they were available but didn’t get it until 30-45 minutes later so they were already gone. Checked Amazon and didn’t appear to be available yet. Check Walmart and it let me put in an order and checkout no problem. Got the confirmation email which was almost immediately followed by an email telling me my item is on back order. I assume that email is auto sent for any order that can’t ship right away so I’m not 100% certain but I think it’s likely that I will be getting one in the mail from Walmart. Probably.

Not really a huge fan of FPS's and prefer Battlefield but wanted a shorter game with online multiplayer for the PS5 and CoD Cold War is on sale so I picked it up. I've got to say that the DualSense controller almost revolutionizes the genre for me. Astro's Playroom is still the definitive game to demo the new controller tech but CoD is a great indicator for how it can be used in more traditional games. It does an amazing job at making it feel like you're actually holding a gun in your hand while shooting and makes them all feel different based on their various specs. This better not be one of those new features that gets used at launch and then forgotten about because it really is the best thing about the PS5 thus far.

Have you tried it on PS5?

I finally got an order in for a PS5 at Best Buy. Due to pick it up on Thursday. I’m also a big Battlefield fan but not a battle royale fan nor a COD fan so I haven’t tried the Firestorm mode in BF. Have you tried it on PS5? I've stuck mostly to just PS5 games on the PS5. Astro's Playroom first but that only took three or four hours to platinum. Then Bugsnax which was surprisingly enjoyable and a decent 12 hours or so to platinum. Doesn't really make great use of the controller though. Then on to CoD which is your standard 5 or so hour campaign and your typical fast paced, close quarters multiplayer that CoD always does. As I said before, great use of the controller. Just finished Maneater yesterday which was 10 hours to platinum. Fun concept but gets repetitive quickly and while it claims to be a PS5 version of the PS4 game it makes no use of the controller, whatsoever. I don't always push for the platinum trophy in games but these ones were all short and most of the trophies were gained through regular play, so I figured I might as well. I've also played No Man's Sky and Planet Coaster with their PS5 versions. No Man's Sky does add some support for the new controller functions, but it's nothing too serious. Planet Coaster also feels like it's a straight PS4 port, but I loved Rollercoaster Tycoon back in the day and this is made by the same people that made it so I'm just happy to make some amusement parks again. Borderlands 3 and Destiny 2 are games I own and could upgrade to PS5 versions for free but I really have no desire to play either of those games again, so I haven't thus far. I've heard Destiny 2 is supposed to be a really good upgrade but I can't speak to that myself. For the PS4 I previously mentioned I got MLB 20 when it was on sale and it feels much faster on load times. I've played some PGA2K21 and I didn't notice any serious difference. Otherwise I've been playing games in the PS+ Collection that I never played before to fill in the gaps between PS5 games. Went with Days Gone first which is a game I had no interest in when seeing trailers for it. Took a while to get into it and it felt like an open world The Last of Us for quite a while, but it started to come into its' own eventually and I was pleasantly surprised by it. Has bugs and it's no gameplay masterpiece, but it looks great, tells its' story differently from most games, and is decent fun and limits the collectable searches that are prevalent in so many open world games these days. 55 hours to platinum this one. Now I'm just over 20 hours into Persona 5 having no idea what to expect having never played a Persona game before. Its' a different art style so it looks good, but it probably would have looked good on a PS3 as well. Loads are fast when fast travelling around which I'll assume is optimized for the PS5. It's a very Japanese turn based JRPG which is a genre I don't play often but am willing to play one every now and then. I've enjoyed it so far but know I'm just barely getting started at this point. There's my quick review of everything I've played on my PS5 so far, conveniently with time played since it shows that now. If you've been adding the PS+ games for the PS5 to your library the last 3 months and haven't played a chunk of the PS+ Collection and want to get back into or restart No Man's Sky you'll already have enough games to keep you busy for most or all of the year before you even need to consider buying one unless you really want to.

Excellent thank you. The only games I’m playing these days are PGA2K21, Battlefield V, NBA2K21, Red Dead 2, GTA, some Spider-Man open world (already finished campaign), Everybody’s Golf VR, and older versions of Madden and The Show. I’ll definitely get the Morales Spider-Man but not sure what else. Interested in the new NHL game. I need to get the free VR adaptor too tho. I’m not much of a trophy collector. If I get them fine. If not, fine too. Good review of it though, very useful info. Thank you!

I typically am willing to give just about any game a chance and mix up the genres somewhat. Plus certainly helps with this as there are a lot of games that I'd probably never think to buy but am willing to try for free. A lot are meh and I play for a couple hours and never go back. Every now and then you get a pleasant surprise and a game turns out to be better than expected. Problem for me, especially with the PS4 is I ended up starting something new in the middle of something else and I ended up with so many unplayed games. With the small hard drive on the PS5 I'm trying to be better and focus my attention on one main game at a time so I can finish it and delete it before downloading something else. So far so good, but the backlog of stuff I intend to play is already large.

One quick tip for when your PS5 arrives:during the setup process it gives you the option to transfer your PS4 save data to your PS5 either via wifi or ethernet cable. If you only plan on continuing to play only a few of your PS4 games on your PS5 just skip that step and use your PS+ cloud storage to download your saved data for only the specific games you want. I've heard doing the full transfer, especially on wifi can take a long time.

No need to do any formatting or losing that data. Do you know if that is true? That is where most of my recent games over the last couple of years reside. I’ll definitely make use of the cloud saves.

Actually just found this on the PS website: You can play PS4 games directly from an extended storage drive, which gives you more room on your PS5 system storage for PS5 games. If you want to use an extended storage drive you were previously using for your PS4 console, simply connect it to your PS5 console to access your PS4 games. www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/ps5-extended-storage/

I have a 1TB external hard drive with my PS4 games connected to my PS5 and the games that I have played worked fine. I use both controllers depending on what game I'm playing. I'm currently playing the PS5 version of Assassin's Creed Valhalla and the game looks amazing. Also the new features on the controller takes the gameplay to new levels.

One thing to remember with using an external hard drive is that the PS5's faster load times come from its' internal drive, so any PS4 games you play off the external drive will still load at PS4 speeds. May not make a huge difference but if you plan on playing a PS4 game often that has longer load times it might be worth storing it on the PS5 drive instead.
