Just for kicks... my newest course is a real life recreation of my humble home golf club: The Legion. I made it just for fun for me and my buddies from the club and it's coming in handy since the golf courses here are all shut down right now. If you live in the St. Louis area, come see us sometime - beers are on me. Cheers!
The Legion is a 9 hole track that's too long to be a par 3 and too short to be a full-length course. It's a very laid back, everyone-is-welcome sort of place where the fairways are rough, the beer is cold and the locals are friendly. There's always a money game or two going on and no one takes life too seriously at the Legion.
The fairways on 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 are all adjacent, so fire away and you're sure to find at least ONE fairway - but keep your ears open for a FORE! since everyone else is firing away as well. The greens are small and slow and there's a good chance you'll need to scrape aside some goose excrement from your putting line at least once in your round.
#1 is an intimidating 185y par 3 over water and the main road. If you go long, hopefully you'll catch the bunker or you're in real trouble. The tee box is perilously close to Al's Patio, where the regulars gather on sunny afternoons to enjoy beverages and heckle golfers as they tee off.
The 2nd hole is a true hard dogleg left. Aim your 185y club at the three trees straight out from the tee box, or if you feel good about shaping shots you can try to work one around the corner to the left and get it close.
3 is the first real driver hole. It's a short par 4 with no real tricks: what you see is what you get here. This is a birdie (or eagle) hole.
The fourth is another drive-able par 4 although it's easy to go long and end up in the 2nd fairway with a tricky chip. Steer clear of the single gravestone on the right (free drop from there; local rule).
On to #5, another straightforward par 4. Don't go long.
6 and 9 share a tee box with six running to the left and 9 to the right. Beware the "Eff You Tree" (I'll give you 3 guesses why we call it that) guarding the green on the left. Again, as is the case on most of The Legion, don't go long.
The par 3 7th is intimidating if the parking lot is full as many a shanked tee shot has bounced off of parked cars like a pinball. Wave hello to the caretaker who may be on his porch and be careful if he offers you a drink - he's known for heavy pours.
#8 is the longest hole on the course and plays as a par 5 though it would probably be a par 4 most anywhere else. Favor the left side of the fairway and hope you don't hit anyone in the landing area (it's in a valley not visible from the tee). Birdies are common and eagle is in play for sure.
Lastly we go to the 9th, another easy par 4 with a bunker behind it that will hopefully catch a long shot before it goes careening into the parking lot.
After your round, head into the bar, grab a few cold ones and then relax on Al's Patio and join the heckling.
