Hey all, don't know if this was already asked - but I have been noticing an issue with spline path where in spots the 'thickness' of the spline gets really wavy...
At first I thought this was an issue of not enough points in-between each other, but now I'm not so sure.. Almost like the wavy edge you get when putting heavy rough too close to light rough..
Any one else experience this?

Yes, have you smoothed the edges of the fairway with one of the flatten brushes and added a second surface? I noticed working in steppe (I don't know what you're using) some look wacky until you add the second surface. I don't know why but it seems harder to work with in that theme.

At first I was sure you were referring to the heavy rough issue but since you pointed out that cause further down, I’m guessing it’s happening without the heavy rough added. I’ve also had this happen when water is too close to the rough edge as well and the generated shoreline creeps too close

Well, I started as Boreal and switched the theme to Rustic.
I started the plot as Flat without anything on it - and then using various blue brushes, starting adding various hilly features randomly - I used pretty large brushes, so I'm pretty sure I've covered the entire plot.
On the fairway spline - I added to it, the secondary surface - using light rough. This tends to help, but I do find some areas where the LR thickness is again wavy (no Heavy added yet) - so to tweak, I've been moving the closest spline points slightly and that seems to help - but it's causing me to investigate the entire spline to make sure there are none of these waves as that is surely to gain a 'minor sculpting issues' comment from any judging..
So sounds like this is an issue - perhaps mainly with the older templates (like Boreal) - When I switched it over to Rustic, I was half tempted to just start over from scratch again, but I already had some detail added to the plot on Site A - and had the layout set for site B (yes, I'm doing the dual plot thing with MDC and CCDC20) - so I didn't want to scratch all that pre-work..
I think I'll just continue doing what I'm doing - but thought it was worth posting to see if perhaps I was missing something..

Update:
So I did some fooling around with the splines tonight and found this:
1. When using the splines at minimum width of 1.7, the wavy issue was present 2. Moving the spline width in sequence to 1.8, and then 1.9, the issue was still present, but was minimized 3. Setting the minimal width to 2.0, the odd waviness was not present.
So here's the tip - When using spline, stay away from the 1.7-1.9 range to avoid the unwanted odd waviness.
I'm by no means a seasoned designer, though I'd like to think I'm getting there, but something like this may be one of those things that newer designers may miss - AND - I would assume would catch the eye of judges/course reviewers as a possible sculpting issue, when in fact, it's really just a 'flaw' in the designer - IMO.. Like the fact that a 1.7 width on a cart path is like twice the size of a 1.7 width for any of the other surfaces like green, rough, fairway.. and if you get too close to your light rough when placing heavy rough for that manicured look will produce this strange wavy phenomenon on your light rough next to the fairway...
That's all for now, hope this helps someone...

Good investigating. I have this issue on the 3rd at my Lido contest course in the highlands theme. A short patch of wavy rough with no heavy rough laid down and no moving of splines would get rid of it. My spline width is 1.7 so when I'm next on I'll up it to 2 and see if it makes a difference.

I'm not surprised. Cart path splines have been wavy under 2.0 for a while. I assume the same issues occur regardless of the texture.

This totally makes sense. Especially with the cart path comparison. Also because I tried to recreate what you were explaining and couldn't. But I set my spline width at 2.5 before I set them. So yeah, wider would appear to be better.
