I've gone over to the dark side (PC), not the really really pitch black side (PS4) and it is like night and day, the game, and it's blessed tempo, are so much easier. Play on Xbox is too frustrating and unrewarding for me. Pitch Black on the PS4 Peter? Tempo is easier than XB and PC (as standard), but PS4 has no way to adjust the settings. There are quite a few ways to do that on PC, AFAIK. Maybe that could help with tempo and alignment further? I'm a novice, so wouldn't know for sure. Any of the PC guys or girls fiddle with the joystick sensitivity settings in Steam Big Picture? Had any success? There's quite a lot that can be configured so it seems!

With my experience on the different platforms having played on all three, I would say this,
Xbox tempo: -It feels random every time and is more random the more involved the course is. -If you change the camera angle before taking the swing, it can help. Probably a camera facing more downward so that there is less image processing at that moment. -Every club type has random tempo, it is just more noticeable with master clubs due to the smaller 'tempo windows'.
PC tempo: -The better the PC, the better the consistency. If you can keep the frame-rate smooth and background app activity to a minimum, the tempo consistency is on par with that of PS4. -The timing on PC feels like you have to downswing slower to hit perfect when compared with PS4. I don't know if that's just me but that's my take on it. -Because a PC is so flexible with settings and hardware specifications, if your PC is good enough, I'd choose this platform over all three.
PS4 tempo: -It feels consistent and is much smoother than Xbox. -The timing on PS4 feels like you have to hit faster on the downswing to hit perfect when compared to Xbox or PC.
If you had the option from all three? It depends on your swing style and PC specifications. If you prefer to hit faster downswings, then PS4 would be for you. If you prefer a smoother transition and have a decent PC? then it's simple, choose PC.
As for why we have such a variation in game performance (specifically swing consistency) across the platforms, it really is an interesting one to be 100% certain and there is undoubtedly many factors at work. One thing I will say is this, I have a 10 year old laptop which just about ran this game but achieved worse swing consistency than that of Xbox One. My 6 year old laptop on the other hand handles it fine provided the graphic settings are set to 'low'. Unfortunately for me, this graphic reduction makes putting quite tricky when reading the grid greens but apart from that, it is consistent and pretty much on par with PS4.
All this pretty much points towards game optimization and hardware capability. I'm sure much of what I've mentioned has been touched upon before though.

I think that tempo being far less of a problem on PS4 would mean users would have no need to even consider changing settings anyway, even if they had them.
