Greystone Chapel - Black vs. Mulligan Quarry
Judge 1:
Greystone Chapel - Black - Solid Course with wide open spaces and good sightlines. A few greens were tough with the slopes pushing ball off and precision was definately required and you were punished if only a few yards from the ideal landing zone. The Chapel and graveyard (behind 18th green) that give the course it's name were nicely done and helped with immersion. I enjoyed my round and recommend others play it. Would have been nice to have more technical aspects and even some hazards but I guess the slopes toughen the course up enough
Mulligan Quarry - Thouroughly enjoyable course that I highly recommend. I didn't have a stellar round but that is more due to playing poorly than the course itself. This course rewards risk takers but also punishes them if they get it wrong. It has something for all abilities. Lighting however seemed a bit highly which meant that some of the contours didn't stand out and the whole course seemed 'flatter'
WINNER: Mulligan Quarry
Judge 2:
Greystone Chapel - Black - A great looking bunkerless links course with many options and challenging greens. The holes are all well connected and the additional touches of the chapel area and lighting makes it stand out. The deciding factor in this match was the various options that Greystone Chapel offered during the round.
Mulligan Quarry - A good looking playable course with different challenges brought in with elevation changes and natural terrain. Will provide a good enjoyable round for the majority of the community. As aesthetically pleasing as the course is it was let down by some minor sculpting issues.
WINNER: Greystone Chapel - Black
Scawt Hill Golf Links vs. Hallstatt North Golf Club
Judge 1:
Scawt Hill Links - This is a solid links course with some interesting ideas. The environment is consistent and immersive with some nice little touches. Some technical issues and inconsistencies with dificulty hold this course back.
Hallstatt North Golf Club - Hallstatt is an amazingly beautiful environment. The planting and elevation changes make for some georgeous vista's. The routing creates a decent enough variation and some interesting hole designs. Gameplay is well thought out with many fun risk reward options. Some of the elevation changes are a little more than necessary and detract from the playability of the hole.
WINNER: Hallstatt North Golf Club
Judge 2:
Scawt Hill Links - This is a course that shows promise. It is nicely routed and flows around the plot, however it lacks a little finesse in it's appearancewhich shows in comparison with the other course.
Hallstatt North Golf Club - Beautifully build course with plenty of options to enjoy a good round of golf in most conditions. When compared with it's opponent you can see the quality of the finish of the course to give you an easy way to make a decision.
WINNER: Hallstatt North Golf Club
Greystone Chapel - Black vs. Scawt Hill Links
Judge1:
Greystone Chapel - Black - Greystone Chapel was a beautifully executed and thought out course. The routing was interesting but thought it hurt the flow of the golf course at times.
Scawt Hill Links - A lovely links course that was a lot of fun to play. Lacked in detail and execution compared to Greystone Chapel.
WINNER: Greystone Chapel - Black

Greystone Chapel - Black - This course had some of the best planting in this contest and I was licking my chops of the first flyover off the T but ultimately I felt let doen by the routing. Playing over greens and criss crossing fairways just seemed very dangerous and was an irritation for me while playing. Ironically the chapel and graveyard on the 18th must be the people killed by balls in the line of ... playing Greystone Chapel. Greens are smallish but not too small and this is where this course puts an empasis on what is needed. The second shot..get it close to the pin and try to mske the putt. Not much strategy is needed for T shots as the focus here is too hit the fairway ..in other words accuracy. The ligting works well.........However if you have a huge plot to buid a course on use it as the tightness didnt work imo and was overdone....ultimately costing this course a win here.
Scawt Hill Links - The winner... I was worried about the round brush sculpting from the air but it had no impact here visually while playing and it did not cause any playability issues either. Although the wall on the 3/4 holes could cause issues for some. The soft fairways on publish could be fixed with settings giving this course a more links feel when playing. The routing here gives this course the win as it competed against a course with imo very poor options regarding routing. The course lacks planting -- good planting -. The greens do have some huge mounds in them but if the player is good enough to avoid them the greens are pretty tame. In the end the fun factor and routing wind it here for Scawt Hill Links.

Mulligan Quarry - This match was very tough for me because both of these courses have so much character. Mulligan is a unique and great looking track and is very clean and technical. Where it lacked is the detail work and the WOW moments. All though there are some memorable areas of the course it didn't stand out to me as much.
Hallstatt North Golf Club - Hallstatt is my winner because it just has another level of detail that I did not find in Mulligan. Some of the elevation is a bit extreme but it adds a lot of shot variety and excitement to the round. Not to mention the breathtaking views from the tee boxes. Both of these courses were a lot of fun to play!

Greystone Chapel - Black vs. Hallstatt North Golf Club
Judge 1:
Greystone Chapel - Black - An atmospheric course which drew me in through thoughful creation of challenges for the golfer within a visually engaging environment.
Hallstatt North Golf Club - Competently created and one of the better handlings of the alpine theme which for me, ultimately felt well done rather than excellently executed.
WINNER: Greystone Chapel - Black
Judge 2:
Greystone Chapel - Black - Greystone Chapel is fantastically strategic golf course in a really unique environment. The lack of bunkers could go either way but I think it works. My favorite aspect of this environment was just how much the various heavy rough textures change color with a little less light, it adds this eerie ‘ghost course’ look to it with the darker brown tones. The darker color of the rough and rocks really suits the visuals well, although it’s a no-brainer that bunkers could improve how the course plays. A few holes such as 5, 7, and 11 are a bit awkward to play and they break up the flow a little bit. The course looks very simple upon first glance: fairways are generally moderate in width and the course has a ton of blind and semiblind shot views, but additional plays revealed it’s all about the subtleties. On many holes the greens are blind except from one particular area of the fairway, and most of the time it’s strategically correct to play there. Add in some top notch holes both visually and strategically such as 3, 4, 9, 10, 13, and 18 and the course feels just as interesting with each round. I still feel like I have barely learned the basics of this course. Despite all its quirks and flaws from some horrible phantom breaks in hole 16’s green to some general rough terrain work in spots, heavy rough paths that while craggly were maybe too much so in spots, and a few mediocre holes, this course’s strategically rewarding layout does not cease to impress.
Hallstatt North Golf Club - This bold mountain golf course provides some stunning vistas and very interesting green sites. Some awkward lies are expected with terrain like this but they’re relatively rare. Hole 14 impressed with one of my favorite tee shot views thus far in TGC, even if the aiming pole was unnecessary. Some holes, especially holes 8 and 9, offer multiple routes to negotiate the hole. However, I didn’t feel like it rewarded the forward-thinking player all that much. Furthermore, tee shots were a bit restrictive with some of the fairway contouring, with the shots on 3 and 15 were overly restricting for what they need to be, but especially on 15 there wasn’t much strategy to the approach shot besides what distance to leave to the green. 17 and 18 on the other hand were wonderful golf holes. All in all an excellent course but never really felt that different for subsequent rounds.
WINNER: Greystone Chapel - Black
Mulligan Quarry vs. Scawt Hill Links
Judge 1:
Mulligan Quarry - Solid course that plays well and is nice to look at. Fails in the looks category to Scawt, but plays much better, and gets the nod for me based on that.
Scawt Hill Links - Probably the better looking of the two courses... but I feel doesn't play as well. Some questionable design choices and what feels like a distinct disadvantage for pro clubs brings this down for me. A solid course none the less, but just loses out in this matchup.
WINNER: Mulligan Quarry
Judge 2:
Mulligan Quarry - This course was above average in all categories. In terms of the TGCT universe it's excellent. A few technical errors, some areas with the play, and the linear feel to the routing keep it at good for this competition.
Scawt Hill Links - Designer can use improvement in all areas of design. Nothing was horrible, but nothing was all that good either. The views were lacking, especially the views from the green back to the tee. Strategies felt really forced. The landscape was rough and needed more to hold my interest. Seems to be the kind of course that would be on the bubble for acceptance into the database.
WINNER: Mulligan Quarry
