We all know sports stars earn stupid amounts of money. Football/soccer is one sport where they earn vast sums of cash, sometimes for little work (substitutes and reserves). Sometimes though they do something that earn your respect or make you really smile. One such player is Sam Clucas, a midfielder who plays for Stoke City in the Championship. An average Championship first team player will earn in the region of £25,000 per week. Given that Clucas was signed just after Stoke were relegated from the Premier League and he plays pretty much every game, he probably earns a bit more. Aged 4, my daughter loves her football/soccer. We take her to football coaching every Saturday morning and she's really good. She's better and scores more goals than most of the boys she goes to the sessions with and a few of them are bigger than her and a little older. I've also taken her to two Stoke games this season (the first ones I have been to in around 15 years). The first one was the Leeds game. It was truly awful. My daughter loved it, asking when we can go again. The second was the Fulham game where Sam Clucas became her favourite player. At the tail end of last year, as a way of getting her to improve her handwriting, I wrote a letter she could copy and send to Sam Clucas. She copied it a few times and I chose the best one for her to post. She took great joy in posting the letter and hoped for a reply. I didn't expect one. Then about three weeks ago (about three weeks after she posted it) a large envelope arrived through the post. Inside it was a short hand written letter from Sam Clucas and also a club pennant signed by around ten of the players. My daughter loves it and we have now framed them. I have a new level of respect for Stoke City and in particular Sam Clucas. Top man.
