you can do that...I have a few times but the bottom of bunkers shouldn't be terribly rounded. The way I described will leave the bottom flattish but still with shape and allow you to round of the edges nicely.

You are the MAN, Reeb. Just tried it and I can do 10 bunkers your way in the time it takes to do 1 the way I was doing it. And they look better doing it the way you describe. Many many thanks. This is great. Maybe I'll be able to publish this course by Christmas . Well sooner, but it was going to be at least another 3 weeks to a month. Should be ready in a week or less now.

I really didn't notice the Red and Blue brushes at first. I don't like the Red because I don't know what they do. They always seem to give me something completely different to what I'm trying to achieve. Go Team Blue!

I would LOVE to know how to make long gently sloping fairways. For instance, let's say that I want a relatively straight hole that is 400 yards long (nice round number). Let's say I elevate the tee box slightly (say 10-15 feet) and the green maybe 10 feet. The fairway, however, I would like shaped like a saddle or vee when viewed from the side (with the first two hundred yards gently sloping down and the second two hundred yards gently sloping up). I cannot find a method or brush that let's me do this. What am I missing. Any help on LONG gentle slopes would be appreciated.

Hey Canuck,
I have had pretty good success with the fuzzy oval brush and the flatten function. If the fairway is elevated (not at sea level) you should be able to create a gentle slope by making the fuzzy oval brush nice and big. Be sure to cover the area that is not just fairway, or else you have some very odd slopes. The fuzzy oval or round brush work the best because the effect is spread out over a large area. I would test it out on a fairway and really play with the size and the number of brush strokes you use. I'm sure J.W. will have some great sculpting tips soon. We are all looking forward to J.W. Fickett's School of Golf Course Design.

Tutorial suggestions: Maybe some work on smoothing extreme terrain. Also, maybe a rundown of the benefits and weaknesses of different brushes.

nice suggestion on the different brushes. I feel like GNCD created all these cool brushes and I only use about 6 of the 30! Let's keep this thread going folks. JW any idea on when we can expect our first lesson? Your disciples are ready to start churning out some great courses to close out 2014.

I can't say for sure. I intended to get started already, but I'm getting crushed at work right now. We are gearing up for the "giving" season as people tend to open their wallets to charities the most around the holidays, but with that comes lots of behind the scenes work in our legal department. Coupled with another attorney in our department recently out on maternity leave, and I've been working 10-12 hour days with no real end in sight right now. I've got many ideas planned out, its just finding the time to record, edit, and publish.

I'm glad to hear this. I like to play "pretty" courses, but I always look for playability first. I would be interested in things like alternate routes to the green, building in risk reward, and how to plan a layout.

Subject to A) getting twitch to work properly (never used it before other than as a viewer) and B) the time at which I expect my friends to arrive from out of town
I plan to broadcast/record approximately 4 hours of building time in the GNCD tomorrow from 930 am until about 1:30 pm. Eastern time US.
I'll be recording in roughly half hour sessions so I can upload them to YouTube.
My plan is to put some finishing touches on Lion's Gate (so if you want a sneak peek of that course, tune in) as well as substantial work on Ballyntyne redesign. We'll be breaking out the bulldozers, and I'll discuss and answer questions from viewers.
Tune in!
