Welcome to the Season 6 TGC Tours Major Championship Design Contest! The goal behind this course design event is to have the community's best designers battle it out with extremely high-quality architecture worthy of hosting one of the season's major events. This year, we have chosen the Olympics as the grand prize, with other designs likely getting a chance to host major events on the Euro, Korn Ferry, and CC tours, as well as possible playoff events at the end of the season.
With that being said, there will be a unique registration process for this event to ensure we have a full-field of capable designers that have a history of finishing designs in other contests. Here is how this will work:
Registration Period: all designers are welcome to register for this event by replying to this post that they're interested, between the dates of January 25th to 31st. At that point, registration will close, and on February 1st, VctryLnSprts , Crazycanuck1985, and PithyDoctorG will announce the field of 25 chosen to compete.
Who Gets Chosen: There are no invites, but it's also not completely 'open' either. Weighted consideration will be given to applicants in this fashion: 1) a contest winner within the past two years, 2) a top-5 finisher in any contest within the past two years, 3) competed in at least two design competitions (exc. rookie) within the past year, 4) wild-card slots chosen by the contest directors
What If I Don't Get Chosen: By all means, let the butt-hurt begin, blame a clique, and throw a fit... OR, enter the Challenge Circuit Championship run by mayday_golf83 and toddfather, which will have no entry requirements and give you a chance to prove we were wrong.
When Can I Begin: You may begin your entry as soon as the official field is announced by the directors on February 1st (no WIPs or previously published remodels are permitted).
How Long Do I Have: The contest publish deadline is April 30th, and the publish window will be for one month, April 1st through 30th.
What Are The Requirements: There are NO requirements... the course doesn't have to be a certain style or theme, and it doesn't have to resemble a Japanese course in any way if you don't want it to (remember, the non-winners will likely get used for events other than the Olympics anyway, so there's no need to put that stipulation in). There are also no required elements, total par, length recommendations, etc. You have an open sandbox with which to work, and your mission is to create a course you think is formidable for a major event on the PGA Tour, whatever that means to you.
How Will The Contest Be Judged: The exact format of the competition and the scoring details are still being worked out by PithyDoctorG, but rest assured that if you keep the official TGC Tours judging rubric (*drink) in mind when you design, you're already off to a solid foundation. We will update this thread and announce the scoring format as soon as we iron everything out.
What Is The Prize: The winner will host the Olympic event on the PGA Tour schedule in Season 6, as well as receive a free painting of their course by resident artist mattf27.
If you have any questions, feel free to PM the contest directors, otherwise, let the registration begin!
