Some people still working there are complaining like the one below
www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/HB-Studios-Reviews-E335890.htm
"Avoid at all costs"
Current Employee - Developer in Lunenburg, NS
Doesn't Recommend
Negative Outlook
Disapproves of CEO
I have been working at HB Studios full-time for more than a year
Pros
- Has a laid back working atmosphere. - Most staff are friendly enough.
Cons
- Low staff motivation to improve or change. - Lack of knowledge and experience in making own games. - Poor management and general company communication. - Zero training or career advancement opportunities. - External experience is not valued. -Lots of overtime cause by bad product management and foresight. - Out dated hardware and not enough equipment to go around. - Management don't deal with raised issues.... Advice to Management
The levels of apathy in the studio are astronomical. Many of the staff have no interest in challenging themselves or improving the products they work on. Take an active interest in your workforce and how you can better develop and utilise their experience, especially those who have external backgrounds. Learn to communicate effectively, talking for a long time doesn't make you look smart. Listen to what others have to say.

Senior game designer nonetheless
"After 8 years I still enjoy coming to work everyday."
Current Employee - Senior Game Designer in Lunenburg, NS
Recommends
Positive Outlook
No opinion of CEO
I have been working at HB Studios full-time for more than 8 years
Pros
- Great Benefits - Flex Time - Engaging projects - Creative freedoms - Friendly employees - Small town > Big city - Overall fun place to work
Cons
- Limited remote access - The daycare closed a couple years ago
Advice to Management
Every year has been better than the last. I look forward to see what 2020 and beyond brings us. Keep pushing us forward.

Probably Jordan Ault. I know he has been there since at least 2014 and is listed as a "senior game designer". So says the video at the 25 second mark.

This appears to be evidence that satisfaction is a function of expectation, more than anything else. Person A could have expected a full AAA caliber studio while Person B has seen the company grow from a literal garage operation.
Hard to draw a conclusion based on two comments on a job venting website.

Comment A seems to be how we’re seeing it, at least with any attempt whatsoever about how to improve the swing - unimaginably apathetic.

Two sides to every story... but the first posting mentions poor communication - something we have from HB all the time.

Also, I thought the second post was created shortly after someone brought the first post to HBs attention on their forums?

HB has some real work to do. The pretty much abandoned their last 2 games just months after launch. Bad business IMO.

Just read the latest reviews on the Glassdoor web site. It looks like HB are trying to put a positive spin to counter the negative review dated November 2019 by one of the experienced game developers. I think that the comments he makes goes a long way to explain the way HB are not communicating with community. I am also of the opinion that his comments about lack of skill level does not bode well for further updates or iterations of the game. Just my opinion. Barrie

I feel like comment burying has got to be a pretty common practice for small companies (I'm sure larger companies do it too but they would be less concerned about it). For one, a small company has a small reach so negative comments online, even just one, can be very hurtful to their business. Also, they have less comment traffic on those sites so a new negative comment will stay at the top of the page longer instead of just naturally being buried. And the leaders of small companies are probably more in tune with the specific things that are being posted about their companies on social media.
I worked for a very small company for a while (about 15 employees) and we buried negative comments on multiple occasions. We were asked to reach out to our friends and families to post positive comments even when those people obviously had nothing to do with our services.

Meh, it's hard for me to understand why anyone would take online "reviews" at full face value anyway.
My family has a small business and I've seen bad reviews on stuff we don't even offer lol. I don't even pay attention anymore.
For vacations, products, restaurants, whatever...i almost always automatically disregard all the extreme ratings being good or bad. Try to search out a few well written level headed reviews and go from there.
