Since I finished Greenbriar Old White I am now looking for a new course to work on. I was looking through the various "Top 100" lists for the USA and came across Peachtree Golf Club a Bobby and R. T. Jones design from 1947. It was not on the Lidar course claimer list nor is it in the TGCTours course database. In the game however there are 6 or so courses (many betas) which are named Peachtree Golf Club Lidar with a designer listed as D. R. Golfer. He is not on the TGCTours or TGC forums member list, nor on the HB website members list. I opened the version which had been played the most (about 160 plays) and It seems from the few holes I played that it was a pretty good rendition.
Since this is a decent version and it is Lidar I will not repeat D. R. golfers work, but I wonder if anybody here knows anything about the designer or the course. It is a shame he did not submit it for acceptance because I think it would make the cut.

Mike, I'm not sure about the designer for Peachtree, but maybe you could take a look at Victoria National in Newburgh, IN. It's in the Golf Digest Top 100, designed by Tom Fazio and it's not too far from where I grew up in southern Indiana. I've not had the chance to play there, but it has already hosted events on both the Korn Ferry and Champions Tours, and it has gotten rave reviews. I have it claimed on the Lidar Course sheet, but there's no way I can get to it for quite some time and I would love to see someone with great skills like yourself do a version of it. (Loved Crooked Stick and plan on playing Greenbriar this weekend).

I see you have mapped out the course in OSM, did you also look at the Lidar? I was surprised that this rural area had good Lidar data. Anyway I certainly will take a more in depth look at the course and see what I can find out as far as pictures and other info, and let you know in a few days whether I will do it. I had been spending some effort on getting ready to do the California Golf Club of San Francisco, but since it is totally surrounded by tightly packed homes all around the course I do not know whether I can do it justice with the plant meter restraints; I haven't written it off yet though.

Yes Mike, I did map out the course quite some time ago, but that was when I first started playing around with the Lidar tool, so I don't know if the mapping will be to your liking or not. Now that I've used it quite a bit more, I find that I use a lot fewer points. Anyway, I would love to see you do it, it's a phenomenal course and very unique. Also, I know there is a video out there of a walk through done by Bill Kratzert that looks like it would be pretty helpful. I certainly understand your concern with California Golf Club, but that would be a great addition to the game as well. Thanks for the reply. I just saw your post and thought I'd throw out and idea. Dirtbags must stick together!

Dirtbags must stick together! Dirtbags Forever! The Full Monty will rule!I took a look for the video you referenced and was unable to find anything on the web or YouTube. there were a few 3-4 minute videos of Victoria National but no play through looking under the club name or Bill Kratzert. If you have anymore info let me know.

There are so many other good courses out there as well. No clue what type you're looking for but if you ever need some course ideas I always got some more to throw out there.
Victoria National is an awesome course, no idea what the LiDAR situation is like for it. I was going to work on another Indiana course that has new data almost but not quite ready to go, no clue if Victoria is in the same situation. Fortunately the older data for mine seems pretty good, but the terrain down in the southern part of the state (and especially on that golf course) is a bit more dramatic, and perhaps there were more tree cover issues or something of that ilk. Have you checked the 2011 data set's quality for that course yet?

The course is laid out, the water (lots of that!) is in, and I am having to mess with a lot of the traps because splines don't work well with the little zig-zags some of these traps have. The Lidar appears to be from 2013, level 2 quality, and so far not too many artifacts I have found. Yes the terrain is roly-poly as all be damn, and the greens are really tough looking. I hope I can find four pin positions on some of them. Thanks for your interest, I appreciate your input.

That's awesome! Yeah, bunkers can be annoying. As long as the edges aren't 'seriously ripped' you should be ok with splines but...welcome to fiddling with bunker splines for way too long to get the correct shapes!!!

HoosierHoops did the OSM and he did a good job, but on a lot of these bunkers I had to mark the edges with the measure tool, delete the splines Jeff had drawn, and then build up the shape as seen in Google Earth using shapes in small increments. PITA

Hmm, I see what you mean. The one on hole 4 in particular looks nasty. It might be doable with splines but without dozens of hours of trial and error learning how points work that close together...good luck. Would be better off with brushes for sure there.

Unfortunately after putting in some work on Victoria National Adam (Arielatom) has convinced me that the Lidar data are too corrupted to use for an accurate representation. I am abandoning my effort. I will keep the course file I have done so far, and if new Lidar data comes out in the near future as Adam thinks, somebody is welcome to take my work and try laying it over new terrain. I think I did a decent job on what I have done so far.
I will continue on to look for something to build.

Do we know what the status is on a LiDAR Winged Foot for this years US Open? I thought someone was working on it (it’s been mapped in OSM)

How about the Dye's Valley course at TPC Sawgrass? Hosted Web.com Tour championship and Senior Tour events previously.....(playing as a par 70 - 8th and 17th as long 4's)?

Neither are on the Lidar course claimer sheet. Winged Foot has had Lidar done in 2019 but it has not been released by TNM. The same for TPC Sawgrass except the Lidar is still in progress.

Let’s hope that Lidar comes out soon for Winged Foot so we can get something (hopefully) by the US Open!
Is there LiDAR available for Somerset Hills in New Jersey? It’s a cool quirky Tillinghast design ranked #42 by GOLF.
Also what about Garden City in New York? That’s another highly ranked golden age course.
