Hi Guys- Trying to get to grips with TGC 2019 after a LONG break from the game (last played TGC1). I would like to get back to TGCTours eventually, but I am stll struggling with this at the moment.
So here is my question: Quite often I will have a shot from the rough and the carry yardage should be ~75% but the ball carries way further than that. It happens mostly on pitches and flop shots from rough or sand. Anyone experience this and what is the remedy? And keep in mind, I am using the aids provided so as to learn, so I would like these to be more or less in the ballpark. Sometimes it works like it should, but many time I way overhit it.
Thanks in advance.

Wow, okay. I did not realize that it had so much effect. So the key to nice flop/pitch distance is tempo. Cool, thanks for that, it is much appreciated!

Fast backswing/downswing both make the ball carry further. Tempo is VERY important for distance. Also use L2 to check your lie. Downhill lies also cause the ball to carry more. The lie is quite important on flops and pitches, both uphill and downhill. It alone can make a difference of 20-30% on steep slopes. As you get to full shots, especially with longer clubs, it loses importance. And as Staypuft said, tempo is very important on shots out of the rough or sand - it is easy to get a super long or short shot with bad tempo under with those lies.

Thanks guys, the part about the lie is something I definitely was not paying much attention to.

I think it’s also important to consider that the carry on short shots seem to go further than what is displayed. And the bad lies don’t seem to affect the short shots as much as what is displayed as well.

I know we are talking about carry yardage but part of it could still be extra rollout, for example if I have a 60 percent plugged lie, the spin penalty makes up for the carry lost around the greens. So assuming I land on the green no math or shot adjustment is necessary and if I do add 40 percent to it Im going wayyy past the hole. The worse the lie the more the spin penalty, but generally you dont need to hit them any further, sometimes you need to hit them shorter!

Fast tempo increases flop shot distance to the point where I usually play for it. Sometimes even perfect/perfect carries 1-2 yards more than marked. Other shot types I have not noticed this kind of issue with.

Barely slow and distance still increases, but more than that and it does decrease. Very slow downswing for both chips and flops loses a lot of distance.
