On the back of a number of more rugged designs, I wanted to push myself in a direction I'm really uncomfortable with, namely a clean parkland course with minimal planting, cart paths etc. In real life, I hate this style of golf (partly because most of the UK parkland courses I've played are cheap, tight, tree-lined affairs where you are just punished for being a tiny bit off-line. So, in the name of getting a bit better with the designer - particularly working on my bunker shapes and not using planting, huge elevation change or waterfalls as a crutch, here goes... In essence, my personal challenge is: "can I make good, bare bones golf holes?" That said, I'm quite liking it so far

Look forward to it! I’ve been thinking of doing something similar to push myself out my comfort zone as well. Always good to go against your tendencies and push yourself in different directions.

I've tried this and it did not end well, lol. This looks promising though!

Awesome look you have going on there. Needs a few web.com and fedex signs though.

A few more vanity shots. It's taking a lot of self-restraint not to plant everywhere, but I am loving the look. Par three 7th - 215 yards: Par five 6th - 514 yards with a nice drive then miserly approach shot: And the second now pretty much fully planted. Bunkers need some love still - I'm getting there with them but only just finding the style I want.

(this is like that touch wood thing all over again) www.britainsfinest.co.uk/golfcourses/search/class/parkland-golf-coursesOriginal idea was based on Wentworth in Surrey as a high-profile name, even though this will look nothing like it.

Ocean = links Inland = parkland Fries = chips Sorcerer's stone = philosopher for some reason Stop signs = roundabouts

I’d say the majority of the golf I’ve played in my life could be termed as “Parkland”. In fact, my club back home was a prime example. We do indeed have parkland in the states, as boring as they might be...

Lol, sorry. I was just making a joke about how much I wouldn't want to make a parkland style course.

Lol, sorry. I was just making a joke about how much I wouldn't want to make a parkland style course. Ah gotcha. I totally thought the same thing, but I'm enjoying it so much more than I anticipated. Something quite cool about trying to make a hole look good whilst doing very little.

Finally closed out the front nine bar some planting work with a remodel of the 6th ( joegolferg - eventually got there!) and finishing up the 9th green. Some pictures of where we're going with those holes. 6th - par four, 374 yards 7th - par three, 213 yards. Slight change bringing the water in a touch: 8th - par five, 564 yards - a thank you to mayday_golf83 for a suggestion and the video for the retaining wall. 9th - par four, 480 yards And because I always love seeing how others route holes, here's an overhead of the front nine. Squeaking very close to the edge of the plot, but I think I've gotten away with it:
