The Parks DLC if being offered for free thru Steam for people who create a Paradox account, just an FYI.

I tried this game game when it came out and couldn't get into it. Played a lot of Sim City 4 back in the day but just couldn't find my groove with Cities.
Decided to try it again two weeks ago as I've been getting bored of the other two games I play (some golf game and Destiny)
Nearly gave up again after getting frustrated trying to draw curved roads, after much fiddling I figured it out and now am addicted.
Anyway, meaning of this post is. This game surprised me yesterday. Wanted to make some changes, move my cargo harbor, build an island and put my airports on it. So I moved my harbor but noticed I wasn't getting any ship traffic. Went on with my island building plan occasionally un pausing to check my harbor.
I began to experience a flooding problem in my city which I never had. Couldn't figure it out. I decided to give up on the island idea as the bridge to it was looking like it was going to block shipping and I wasn't happy with it anyway.
Off to remove the island, finish hit play and then it hit me. I was getting flooding because of the water displacement from building the island. Surprised me that the game simulated that.
Playing on PC with use of mods from the Steam Workshop. May give up on this city, seem to be running into a bit of a wall with population growth and have plans for what I want to do on a fresh start. This was my 1'st city in CS which is all a learning experience. Loving this game, actually fun to play and doesn't feel like a tedious grind of "getting my rounds over with" I get from the golf.

My Cities progress yesterday.
1- decide to start new city. 2-Looks at existing maps, loads one by one at 3-5 minutes each for loading time. 3-Look around map trying to decide to use the map or not 4-Nope 5-Load another map..another 5 minute load 6-Nope 7-Spend a brutal amount of time on Steam Workshop looking for a good map, download a few nice ones. 8- Load each one to check them out...3-5 minute load time each one 9-Not sure, may use one 10-Continue to load more, download more 11-Still undecided. 12- 4 hours later give up
4 hours spent loading, looking, downloading, loading, looking and never drew a single road or zone or anything.
Have it narrowed down to 3 maps now and now have a clear idea of the kind of design I want..so thats progress I guess.
Side note, the terrain tools and they way they behave (brushes and how they work) seem a lot like TGC...

This may be for the others as you haven’t got that far Tim lol

It's most likely the mods/assets that have slowed down my loads. I've added the "fast load times" mod which really helps. 1'st load after just starting the game can be close to 5 minutes. After that it seems to be in the 1-2 minute mark. Essential mods, not sure all the ones I have installed, next time I start up the game I'll take note. Must have for me that I have installed are..bearing in mind I've only been playing this 3 weeks so my mods list may not be the "proper mods" most people use. I'm just learning as I go. Infinite money--gives you uhmm infinite money Unlock all--unlocks all progression and milestones Unlock all tiles--i can buy all 25 tiles right away. I like to build, I know some probably don't like to use the "cheats" but I just like building and not being constrained by budget woes Fast load times--above Relight--adjust brightness, contrast, switch LUTS A dvanced Eye Candy---more graphic options. Theme switcher. Change the theme of any map Just installed today and is a game changer for me (not sure of exact names, will note them in morning. Parallel roads--you can draw parallel roads or anything. Eg; 6 lane road, mono rail, train tracks. You enter the number/value for the spacing then draw your one road and the others you added follow the line. Make nice clean highways and stuff. Screen shot below I was able to draw the circular roads very easily with this mod. Along with "P recision placement" (again don't remember the actual name) but it allows for fine increment placement of roads, rail etc... Network tools--adds more roads and track options. Advanced Landscaping--more control with editing terrain Stacked roads or something.--draw a road with a rail network above it Few other mods I can't quite remember off the top of my head. After all my map loading yesterday...and today lol...I wound up settling on a stock in game map "Roslyn Peninsula" and spent the day laying out my new city...thanks to the parallel roads mod, made this easy. Two Boobs...(Probable city name at the moment, may become Three Boobs. lol) Tomorrows project is building network infrastructure to industrial section. (main road under ground, mono rail underground) and finish drawing up the road network for the main area. Going to be a random spagetti road build, not an organized into grid thing, airport and cargo ports to come after all that.

And to further expand on Jimmy's question in a way. Just out of curiosity, are there mods for the game on console?
And I'll admit to something here lol
I don't do mouse and keyboard in any game if I have anything to say about it. It's too uncomfortable for me with my hands and positioning. Even playing a game like Destiny (First person shooter) on PC I play with a controller.
In Cities there is no controller support unless you enter the "dev tools" and click the button for "analogue controller". And even then it's limited use. Can move around and zoom in/out and thats about it, can't select anything. So I'll hold my controller in my left hand, mouse in right. Use left hand to zoom out with left trigger, left stick move around. Mouse wheel to zoom in and buttons to select stuff, draw roads etc. And the occasional use of the keyboard for hotkey stuff. Bulldozer, etc.

No mods on console and loading is fairly quick.

Well, as promised, here's my "closest to being finished" city of Pacifica. Population of 85k just before a massive death wave hit and dropped it to 76k. Still making money though, and have about 8m in the bank. It'll survive. Covid caught up with Pacifica...

Been playing this game since it came out on PS4. Only really played the sandbox mode as I like to try and build cities that are realistic and that is very difficult to do without unlimited soil etc.
