The 1st lido design contest is now in the final stage, community voting which decides the winners of the inaugural contest. (Pls vote-clubhouse thread) The first was frought with confusion at times, and other times decisions were made on the fly about how to proceed. Despite this though, a framework has been laid for the contest with the longest publish window, the most relaxed entry requirements, and the strongest ability to scale up to include every single designer who wants to take part.
It is now time to announce Lido2, a contest in which the best individual holes from the World Cup and Major Design contests, as well as any other course designed in that timeframe, can be pitted against each other for the soon to be coveted Lido Championship.
LIDO2 DETAILS
What do I need to do? Choose your favorite individual holes from your favorite design in this time period, and see how they stack up against the other designers in this community.
What categories are there? There will be 5 categories in Lido2, par 3, short 4, par 4, par 5, and best view. Every tee shot and approach shot is considered part of the view category, so 4 entries in total maximum.
Can I enter just 1 hole? You can enter only 1 or as many categories as you wish
Define short 4 For the purposes of this contest a short 4 will be defined as a par 4 which requires less than driver to obtain a full wedge into the green, under NEUTRAL wind conditions.
Can I use Lidar data for my plot? No, even if the holes are original I can't allow anything that not everyone has access to.
How do I announce my intent to enter? Demand entry and I will grant it
Are there any publishing stipulations? Yes, since we are asking the contestants and the community to play and judge our entries, I ask that you create a new publish with the entered holes at the front. The easier it is for everyone, the less likely we will have hiccups. The new publish should be titled "lido2 - yourforumusername" this way when judging we can simple search Lido2 and find all entries, easypeasy.
What's the publish window? You may pull your entry from any publish made after November 1 until the Major Design window closes. About 6 months
can I use holes from 2 different courses? unfortunately no, this would complicate judging and add to the time required to judge. Besides, every hole you make should be the best you've ever made.
what's the point of this contest?
This contest forces designers to look really closely at other designer's holes to answer the question, why did they pick this? Learning what everyone thinks makes the best golf hole will inevitably carry over into our own design, thereby improving the overall quality of the already immaculate tgct design community. The contest also serves as that last bit motivation to make every publish all that it can be.. to not overlook that bump in the cartpath or the bunker that is too much work to resculpt.
How does the judging work? depends on number of entries, scaling details follow.
From 1 -15 entries: All contestants will play all entries and nominate a winner for each category. After nominations are completed the nominees will be voted on via a community poll to determine the winner.
16-unlimited Beginning at 16, then again at 30 and in increments of 10 from there, contestants will be placed in randomized pools during the nomination stage. You will be nominating from only 1 pool. This will keep the workload on the the contestants at a manageable level regardless of entry numbers. The community voting will be much the same, except they will be voting on the best from all pools so they dont have to play as many entries either.
As far away as this really is, I'm already looking forward to the entries. Just keep this contest in the back of your mind, and let it be the motivator for you to make that one small change that takes your hole from good to great. It could be the difference to the Lido Champions.
If you have questions, ask, I'm sure I missed something.
