How many people in the community have been affected by adoptions, either adopting a child or for any other reason, allowing your child to be adopted by other families?
This afternoon, my daughters mother, after 24 years, was finally able to meet her daughter. She was 16 years old when Kristen was born. And the adoption was something she didn't want to do, but was forced to by her mother. I've been with Vickie off as on since 2005. My daughter was born in 2008. I'm sure that not one day has passed that Vickie didn't wonder what her daughter's life was like growing up. She was with a husband and his wife, who Vickie's mother knew from church. Every year, she would receive a picture from her, showing how much she has grown. As Kristen got older, the communication from her adopted parents began to slow. With the advent of social media, Vickie was able to continue to watch her daughter grow. A few months ago, she received a hand written letter. Kristen is a technical writer for a company in Akron Ohio. They talked via email and about 3 weeks ago, they both decided they wanted to meet. Today they met for lunch, with her biological father in tow. Vickie cried and they talked. My daughter was upset that she couldn't go, cause she's always wanted a sister. They plan on meeting again in the near future. It's my daughter's birthday tomorrow, her eleventh. I'm hoping when Kristen and Eileen finally meet, it'll be her favorite birthday present ever.

I have a niece who is adopted. We are only a couple of years apart and were really close growing up since I had lived with them for a few years. She was able to meet her biological mother and sister. I don't know the circumstances of her bio mom at the time of adoption but everyone involved were very supportive of the reunion. She has developed a relationship with her natural sister while not losing any sense of her adoptive family. In fact, it just made their respective families a little bigger. Everyone accepted everyone else and just let things happen organically.

My cousin was adopted from China as an infant. No idea what the story of her biological family was. She's about 13 years younger than me. One Christmas when she was younger she found out I have a different last name than the rest of my immediate family (through divorce/remarriage of my mom) and asked me if I was Chinese thinking I might have been adopted too. One of the funniest things I've ever heard a kid say

Not going into detail but someone very close to me is adopted. Said person has never had interest in finding his "real" parents. We also don't tell anyone because it's their choice. Honestly never even think about it.
My dad never had a father and hired a PI to find him. Decided to not meet him . Said F him didn't deserve it. Obviously a different situation though. Motivated him to be what he became.
Adoption usually is a positive because the parents want a child

We adopted a 10 month old girl in China October 2003. Our daughter has no connection to her parents back in China.
My husband had been adopted when he was six months old. He met his birth mother six years ago.

Adoption can impact a wide range of people in different ways, and there is no comprehensive data on the number of individuals who have been affected by adoption in some way. Adoption can bring both joy and challenges, and it is important for those who are impacted by adoption to have access to support and resources to help navigate the complexities of this experience. My family and I have been best affected by adoption. We were able to build a happy family where everyone loves and supports each other. The Foster Plus program has helped me find happiness in life.
