My World Cup entry is underway. I don't have anything yet that's worthy of pictures, but I am fairly pleased with the progress I've made. Nothing is totally set in stone right now, but it's probably going to be a par 70 (5 par 3s & 3 par 5s) of 6800-7000 yards. The course is routed across a hillside, with the plot's lowest point about 150 feet below the highest point.
My main inspiration is Crystal Downs, so there will be many greens with severe inclines. Keeping the ball below the hole will be at a premium, even though the default green speed is likely to be in the 130s. I'm deviating somewhat from my usual green design philosophy -- there will be more mounds, ridges, spines, and shoulders, at the expense of my typical tiers and runoffs. In response to some criticism of Doubtful Hills, this course will be a little narrower and will feature significantly fewer holes with centerline bunkers (looking like 2 at the moment). My goal is to try to preserve strategy and interest off the tee without feeling as forced as it did on the last course.
I'm unsure of the theme right now. I've been designing in Harvest, but I haven't quite been able to pull off the look I have in my mind. If that fails, I think my backup will be Rustic. There's probably going to be a creek, which is new territory for me. The amount of off-course decorating I do will depend largely on my plant meter (and my patience). My main focus, though, is sticking with what I do best: making a good, playable course.
Good luck to everyone involved. Going to be tough to advance out of my group, but I think I'll at least have a chance with this course. Updates to come...

It is doubtful that you won't advance. Just wow us with your use of 2, heck maybe even 3 objects if youre really going for it. Haha but seriously I know you've got sleeper potential. Good luck

Good luck 3 objects might be pushing it, but I guess contests are the time to go all out... Would definitely take me out of my comfort zone. jwtexan Yeah, pretty funny coincidence there. I had planned on Harvest well before you posted that in the #Squad chat, and then we get placed in the same group. Like I said, it's subject to change, so we'll see how it goes.

Well, it's been over a month, so I guess it's time to finally update this thread. The course is starting to take shape, although I probably need to pick up the pace somewhat. I did very little work on it during the week of Thanksgiving because I was dreading the next part of the creation process, building the creek that runs through the course. It's been about as time-consuming and annoying as I'd expected, but I've chipped away at it and should be finishing that part this weekend. Once that's done, I can start surfacing the rest of the holes, and things should go more smoothly from there (fingers crossed). I spent the last 15 minutes of my stream last night showing off what I have so far and explaining how I'm trying to build the creek, which you can watch by clicking here. Expect another update next month! (Ok, I'll try to be more regular with these going forward...)

I’ve been making steady progress over the last two weeks. I finished up surfacing the fairways and greens yesterday (which I showed in a Twitch stream — click here if you want to watch the VOD). Now I’m on to creating bunkers and finishing up the sculpting, which I hope to complete by the end of the month. I finally have something vaguely resembling a golf hole, though: Obviously, lots of work still to do, but I love the bones of this first hole. I particularly like the way the bunkers seem to form a line, even though they’re ~150 yards apart. Can’t wait to see how this same view will look in 6 weeks...

Believe it or not, we have trees: 8 days or so left to polish this turd into something good...

Bad news... If you can believe it, I've run out of plant meter, so I'm not going to be able to achieve the full look I was hoping for. Chalk it up to an inexperienced planter who had an overambitious idea. On the bright side, I'm happy with most of the other aspects of the course, so I'll do what I can with the situation and publish that.
