Ok...so since I'm going to be participating I'm obviously going to be out of the loop on judging and the like but I'm still kind of getting things off the ground and setting up rubric info and such (almost done...but hey I'm busy AND lazy so...there you go).
So lets answer a few questions:
DESIGN RESTRICTIONS:
Absolutely none.
Look, if you want to make a par 47 with all par fives and one par 2 then you go right ahead. If you'd like to make a mini golf course that makes you play through the colon of a particularly irregular camel that's addicted to Activia...know yourself out. Just know that it will be judged against a lot of really good golf courses that aren't specially-abled. But this is all about you so have at it.
Seriously though use any theme, any objects, anything you want. Fantasy? Sweet. Links? Jolly Good. Strantz? Who's your dealer? Just do your thing and do your best.
ANY FUNKY REQUIRED ELEMENTS OR ANYTHING?
Nope
STREAMING AND SUCH?
Streaming - yes. And such - HEY THIS IS A FAMILY SHOW!
WHAT ARE JUDGES LOOKING FOR?
If you're not sure on this one then please stop now and withdraw. I kind of mean that because the point here is to make a great golf course with clean design features in an interesting setting with good visuals and...well...EVERYTHING. This is not for a certain tourney or a specific skill set or in a specific region of the world or anything like that. Just do what you would normally do only better *cough* eric *cough*. Oh, and for some of us faster too...
Now, one thing I do can tell you is that the points this year need to really be earned. What I was looking for in this one is not courses that don't get a lot of points deducted but that go out and EARN all the points they get. It may seem like semantics but I think the difference is noticeable and important. One other thing I'll say is that the point system I'm working on is (at least I'm trying to do this...haven't quite got it figured out yet) designed to reward for looks, playability... AND how those two things intersect.
In other words don't just make a good hole and then plop some pretty stuff around the plot...let the land and the planting and the atmosphere enhance the way things flow. I don't want eye candy that's just "hey look over there...aint that a neat barn Josiah?" "Why yes Samuel. That Barn is right handsome indeed". More of a SimGolf "Ooooo My Showooto!" kind of moments. Lets see the land and the foliage and the planting all flow baby... *ohhhhmmmm......*
SO THEN ...WHAT IF I WANT KIND OF A BARREN LOOK?
Cool! Do it well and make it interesting...duh.
What questions do you have? Throw them in here. I'll try to answer as much as I can and if I shouldn't then I'll pass it on to judging coordinators or others.
