That's crazy. I had no idea with the two-handed thing. I'd break my back trying to do that! As for the 300 games SweetTeeBag, yours will come real soon. You are miles ahead of me in this and I was pretty lucky having missed my ideal speed on a couple of throws. I was nervous as crap in that last frame though! It typically takes me a few frames to dial things in. Very rare I start off with a strike. My ideal speed is 19.6 with full ball spin so I can hit the pocket. I'm getting better, but a long ways to go. I think the stats page is for career only. I got my 300 in one of the tournaments, so it doesn't show up anywhere. Really been enjoying this game though. I'm not too far along in the career progression yet and only level 13 or 14 I think. We should figure out a way to do a tournament here with everyone playing. Shouldn't be too difficult to put something together and post our scores. Maybe once the patches are out so it's all the same? I nominate gdog to organize it....

Belmo with a 300 in this clip. It's wild watching them bowl on Shark where you can't get the ball outside of 15.

It's wild watching them bowl on Shark where you can't get the ball outside of 15. What's that mean in English? Each bowling lane has 39 boards. What he is saying is there is so much oil on both the left and right sides of the lane from the 1st board to the 15th you get your bowling ball out there it won't get back to the pocket(The 1-3 for righty or 1-2 for lefty)

Shark = Oil pattern where there is a lot of oil in the center of the lane, a thin "track" and then a lot of oil on the outside part of the lane. Any miss to the right just keeps skidding (you can see that on Metzler's first shot in the video). 15 = there are 39 "boards" on a bowling lane. The seven arrows which are commonly used as a reference part appear on every 5th board. Right-handed bowlers count from the right and lefties count from the left. "Outside 15" just means "to the right of the 15th board (for righties)". Since the target is on the 18th board, there just isn't much room to create a good angle for strikes. Also, since the shark pattern is very long, only leaving 12 feet between the end of the pattern and the head pin, there isn't enough time for a ball to hook from outside. Common league-bowling patterns end at 40-42 feet and have less oil the farther you get from the center of the lane. That has the effect of funneling balls towards the head pin, as a ball will hook more if you miss right, and less if you miss left. Here's a diagram of the Shark pattern. You have to play in the narrow track with less oil which is why all 3 players in the video are playing the same shot, if you look at where their shots are when the ball reaches the dark boards near the end of the lane. Belmo creates the best striking angle due to his superior rev rate which means he's more likely to strike when he misses than the other bowlers are when they miss.

That's amazing. Great explanation ErixonStone - had no idea about any of this. So the darkest part of the oil patterns means the least amount of oil? And the more oil, the less traction on a ball to 'move' it as it goes down the lane. Is that correct? Really hope they get the oil patterns in the game correct because that would certainly add a whole other level of strategy to the game. I've watched/read more about bowling today than all the rest of my life combined. I might even buy a bowling shirt now.

Darkest part = most oil and most slippery part of the lane. You want your ball to travel along the transition from more oil on the left and less oil on the right as far away from the center of the lane as possible. For Shark, according to the diagram, with fresh oil (meaning it was just put onto the lane) that transition is found on the 12th board (lightest oil is on boards 9, 10 and 11).
In the video, the players aren't on fresh oil, so it's moved around some during prior games. Some of that heavy oil in the center has been pushed to the right which is why you see the players a little bit to the left of that - closer to 14-15.

By the way, I had a match against Liz Johnson last night and they've completely nailed her ball arc and roll-out (the ball stops hooking and rolls in a straight path). I was impressed that she didn't have the same generic arc.

Let's not forget none of the oil patterns work...yet. There is an upcoming patch to fix that. Then hopefully they can address having the oil transition during the competitions to add another layer of difficulty

Seriously, we need to organize an event with this group. Maybe team competition or something. Would be a lot of fun!

Of course I'm interested but with the power company flipping the switch on & off lately on half the state it's hard to commit to anything but put me down.

That's horrible what PG&E are putting you all through. They really need to fix their sht and do it without raising rates. We had friends who lived in Paradise, they were ok but lost everything. My wife's cousin lives in Napa and is on the edge right now. Stay safe man.
