Welcome to the Season 6 World Cup of Design!
It's time to get the ball rolling on the new season of Design contests here at TGCT! We start with a bang and dive right in to the World Cup of Design.
I will be posting more about the format, judging, and rules in the next week or so but I need to let you know how you can participate and how it will break down a little bit.
As you are aware the World Cup of Design uses a pool system and round robin tournament format in determining a winner similar to the actual World Cup. 32 participants divided into two pools with 4 groups of 4 going through the round robin elimination and so on.
Previously the pools have been divided into a subjective set of veterans and non veterans. While this has worked pretty well I will be making a change to this format.
Pool A will consist of past contest winners/runners up/finalists...however you want to say it who will receive an invitation for the World Cup of Design. That means that 16 spots in this contest are NOT OPEN for any and all comers. They are spots that have been earned through previous contests (similar to how teams earn their way in to the world cup IRL).
Pool B will consist of those that may have come up a bit short in the past or are looking to branch out and do something they haven't done before and design as hard as they possible can! TWELVE 12 TWELVE 12 spots will be open on a first come first serve basis. You post that you want in...you're in. The last FOUR 4 FOUR 4 spots will be handled in a lotto draw the same as we did for the TGCTCCCDC19. Those that do not make it will be alternates if they wish to be. More info on that after the lotto is done.
One thing I will say right now and it has become an unwritten rule that I like to write anyway; Do NOT take part in this contest if you do not intend to complete and publish a course for judging. If you take a spot and do not finish you will be barred from the next contest and likely subject to a bit of ridicule from your peers cause hey, peers are like that.
I will not take this space to go over judging criteria or get specific but I will mention a few things to keep in mind when deciding if you want to participate:
1) Streaming is 100% ALLOWED and in my opinion the more the merrier.
2) There are ZERO restrictions in this contest. It is 100% make the most bad ass track you can make and release it upon the masses.
3) If you are not sure about letting other people take a blowtorch to your masterpiece do not enter this contest. My intent is to have a judging/scoring system setup that is fair yet may spend a bit more emphasis on the bad rather than the good. There will be critiques that you may not like or agree with. That's just how these things go. It's not personal and if I find that people are commenting more on the designer than on the design I will nip it in the bud very quickly (judges take note!)
4) Smack Talk is ENCOURAGED BETWEEN COMPETITORS! If you are not competing feel free to say "ooo! Burn!" or whatever...but you really shouldn't be involved in legit smack talk ok? Also...I would think that Smack Talk PRE PUBLISH would be best. If you guys want to mix it up after publish go ahead but be careful. Pre publish is more what I have in mind for several reasons. But yeah...give each other a hard time if you like. Memes and Videos are encouraged.
I'll have more info on the rules and such in a few days. The lotto is going to be RIGHT as the contest window opens for work (November 1) so keep an eye out for new posts in here ok?
Invites will go out in the next day or two. If you are a previous winner and do not receive one please let me know. Once I get the 16 invite spots filled I will give 24 hours notice for the signups to start and will post in shoutbox and all that jazz.
Any questions so far? Post here or PM me. Whichever. I'm a pretty busy guy right now but I'll do my best to reply as soon as I can. I reserve the right to call your questions stupid and mock your parentage and may compare your cognitive abilities to containers of random items (ex. "You are dumber than a basket of llama farts" "That question is stupider than a pocket of paper clips")
ROCK ON GENTS!
TLDR:
Invites being sent to fill 16 spots
12 spots open first come first serve
4 spots lotto system
You suck.
