Let the wives know.... this will be a holiday gift to yourself Since we originally unveiled our next-generation console in April, we know that there’s been a lot of excitement and interest in hearing more about what the future of games will bring. Today I’m proud to share that our next-generation console will be called PlayStation 5, and we’ll be launching in time for Holiday 2020. These updates may not be a huge surprise, but we wanted to confirm them for our PlayStation fans, as we start to reveal additional details about our vision for the next generation. WIRED magazine covered these updates and more in a story that posted this morning. The “more” refers to something I’m quite excited about – a preview of the new controller that will ship with PlayStation 5. One of our goals with the next generation is to deepen the feeling of immersion when you play games, and we had the opportunity with our new controller to reimagine how the sense of touch can add to that immersion. To that end, there are two key innovations with the PlayStation 5’s new controller. First, we’re adopting haptic feedback to replace the “rumble” technology found in controllers since the 5th generation of consoles. With haptics, you truly feel a broader range of feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field. You can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud. This may finally be the Playstation I buy at launch without wasting my time telling myself I'll wait a year or two for games to come out and the price to go down. I was a Nintendo guy back when the original PS came out and didn't jump ship until 3 or 4 years in. Since my PS1 was fairly new to me when the PS2 came out it actually was a year or so before I made the upgrade. I laughed heartily when the PS3 was announced with its price tag that only millionaires should afford, yet only waited a month-and-a-half until I bought one(plus essentially paid double for it since my only negotiation leverage was to let my wife buy a new camera at the same time). The PS4 I managed to hold out for a week before I drove 100km each way, half of it through a blizzard to get one.

PS5 for me day one. Anybody know if my PS4 discs will work in this backward compatible PS5? Price point prediction is $399 It looks like it will play ps4 discs going by that screenshot I just sent you. I reckon $499 and I wouldn't be surprised if AAA games go up to $70 or maybe 80. Wonder if the new controller will have dead zone issues too right out the box? Not sure if I'll be day one buyer, but I'm sure that will change. Guessing they'll have a reveal and pre order at E3 next year. I'll be smarter and pre order rather than sitting outside Best Buy for 12 hours waiting for the midnight opening like I did for PS4. At least I was first in line
