Just seen that Sony have confirmed cross platform functionality for PS4 with Xbox etc.
Guessing that means we could play our friends with different consoles online now?
Anyone know anything about this?

About time! TGC could certainly use this to it's advantage (maybe) especially considering the recent black eye it's given itself!

If it forces HB to address the difficulty disparity between xbox and PS4, that's a good thing - but it wouldn't be until TGC-Next.

The Society model is for isolated platforms. *cough cough* Go back to cross platform tours a-la TGC1 in your next game *cough cough*
Even better, find a way to have cross platform Societies in the next game!
Matchmaking and live play would be the only place cross platform play would be used/realistic in TGC2019, IMO. However, this is a small game, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

If they ever allowed cross platform play in societies in the current state of the game I hope they have a option to disable it. One of the biggest draws to my society is there is no PS4 players.

It's not like it hasn't always been possible to do this. Sony doesn't have some magic way they do things. Any online, mutliplayer game is handled with servers and databases. It's just numbers being sent back and forth through a central server. The software doesn't care where the data comes from ... especially for TGC2019. HB discussed this in the article referencing TGCTours, here. If it's the same information in the same format, it would work exactly like it does now ( welcome to information technology 101!) It's a lot more complicated than that in whole, obviously (again, a lot of IT stuff to work out) ... but not from the game's perspective (it's built in Unity, which was specifically designed to be cross-platform).

Right, they likely would have to undo all the restrictions that prevent data from being accessed across platforms rather than actually have to build something new to support it.
