Now that my first course is out of the way I thought I would have a go at something with a lot less trees and try my hand at a links course. Wallasey is a really good course located on the Wirral in the UK and it is the home of Dr Frank Stableford who came up with the idea of the points based version of the game we love whilst playing around here and losing far too many balls!!! As with all links courses, when the wind blows it's very tough. Anyway, I've literally just started with this and pulled in the LIDAR data and the OSM mapping that I did a while ago but here is what it looks like at the moment Andy

Oh yes oh yes oh yes.
When I played Wallasey for the only time it was blowing a bloody gale. I was happy to score 27 using the fine Doctor's method of scoring.

27 points around there when the wind is blowing is a very very good score. I've played it quite a few times and on the 5th which is a 170yd par 3 I've hit everything from a 3 wood and came up short to a 9 iron and gone through the back.
I played it about a month or so ago in perfectly still calm conditions and it's somewhat different.
Unfortunately the OSM mapping is slightly off in marginally different directions on each hole so I'm having to redo pretty much each hole separately however the LIDAR import itself still always amazes me at how good the thing looks.
Hopefully this time I won't run out of plant meter like I did with Birchwood.

I remember playing Conwy a few years ago when the wind was blowing. Their 7th and 8th holes are similar distances in the opposite direction. The 7th was a drive and a pitch and on the 8th I nailed driver and 3 wood and still didn't reach the green.

Spam planting takes a fair bit more time but you can fit a ton of spam planted grass with the meter. If I had to guess, multi-planted grass takes up roughly 4x as much meter as spam planted grass does.

Also, if you import trees using chad's tool - it's hard on the plant meter. I would recommend to not use that and plant the trees/bushes. (Import trees also don't necessary make the right kind of trees).
