I’m having such a frustrating time figuring out Masters clubs. Sure, I shot -3 first round at this weeks TST, but it’s an easy course.
I really want to make Masters clubs work, but no matter how much I practice, can’t get the swing down. All I really want to do at this point is settle an argument. When I play pro clubs, I swing perfect/perfect. Is the first perfect ie. backswing, how fast/slow you bring back your club, or is it the transition from backswing to downswing?

Backswing tempo is effectively how LONG your backswing is - if you make a swing which is slightly shorter on the way back (than perfect) then you get a FAST backswing If you slightly overswing (on the way back) then it registers as a SLOW backswing.

I have seen you on the XB1 leaderboard. So that being said, from what I have read, you are at a disadvantage already by using master clubs on the XB1. There seems to be an inordinate amount of VF/VS swings. I am a 60 year old mediocre player at best, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Some tips I received were to disable (turn off) shot feed back on the practice range. You will be able to tell what your swing is doing by the direction of the ball. Concentrate on making a smooth backswing and downswing at the same speed/pace. Also, use the lightest touch on the thumbstick as possible. After using this method for a while you will get the feel of the swing and not try to see what the feedback is giving you. Good Luck and I hope you give master clubs a chance.

Thank you! So then a very fast downswing is overswinging?

I didn’t even know or think to turn off the feedback. I went back to pro clubs for a round, didn’t feel near as fun as playing with Masters. Appreciate the tips.

Downswing is actually mostly tempo related (ie speed of swing) - so the faster you move the controller stick / mouse in the downswing, the faster the result will generally be - BUT......it is also related to the speed of your backswing (not necessarily length of it though) - if you have a slower movement in the backswing, then you have to have a similarly slower downswing movement... and vice versa (if you move the stick faster on the way back, then a faster downswing motion with the stick will be required to get P/P)
So basically - similar speed movements in back and downswing will result in perfect downswing tempo.
If you are getting VF downswings, then your downswing is quicker than your backswing

I am not great at this game either but i think that its the transition that determines the quality of your back swing (i.e. a pause at the top will result in a slow back swing while no pause will give you a fast swing). Meanwhile, the actual speed of your forward motion with the stick will determine the quality of your downswing.
Again, i could be wrong.....
