I'm just managing to get a celebratory beer in just now, in a rather fitting stein may I add. Waking up at 1 a.m. and drinking at 2 would've too much of a Roadhouse Blues cliche.

I was just curious. Played every course and gave every hole a score just curious how I matched up - from a total non-designer point of view Here's the top 10 - 10. Charleston Hall 9. Acouna Reserve 8. Royal Bentleigh 7. Das Eilte 6. Geiranger 5. Commonwealth 4. Far Water 3. Angel's Edge 2. Black flag 1. Copper Dunes. So how did you rank the courses? If Charleston Hall was in the top 10 I don't think you guys took this very seriously LOL - sorry - at least from a players point of view. I have one more to play.

"LOL sorry", no, this was taken seriously. You have been trolling these threads and searching for a rise from the start - give it a break. As a 'player', your opinion may differ to ours and that's totally fine, but don't try to claim that the judging panel was wrong because they disagreed with you. Also, the areas Charleston Hall scored the highest is in playability and options. Perhaps you might want to revisit your criteria... Here are ours: tgctours.proboards.com/thread/19267/tours-design-contest-judging-rubric--- That said, I would like to see yours, and anyone else's rankings. It's a fun exercise and I would certainly recommend volunteering to judge a contest to anyone; you learn a lot.

Disparaging the judges of this or any other contest in the TGC Tours is not permitted. You may disagree, and that is totally fine, we all like different courses, but this isn’t about “liking” a certain course. These judges work very hard with a foundational rubric, and they DO take it very seriously. That’s all I’ll say on this, don’t stoop to that level.

You could say this design competition turned into a "dream come true". The whole thing started with an idea to bring some designers together that typically didn't or we're not planning on joining one of the major/official TGC tours design contest's, and the main objective to make this a team game and atmosphere. Originally SindreRev and myself only expected maybe 5 designers per team depending on who signed up, we were overwhelmed with support from designers who immediately got excited about the format and team spin on things. We had 24 of you sign up and we cannot thank everyone involved in the contest enough, we had an unbelievable mix of contest experienced and little to no contest tested designers to pick for each of our respected teams. Congrats to BOTH teams in completing so many enjoyable tracks to play, the judging was very tough for the judges with the ranking format required. Would like to thank VctryLnSprts for being so supportive in getting this competition off the ground not only to the community but for taking on the difficult and time consuming job of being our head judge. A HUGE thank you to all of our judges that put in the work and time to get our end result and whatever feedback you were able to give. Just like the designers in the comp we had some very seasoned judges who had been there and done this before, and also some newer judges who played a big impact on the competition as well! One of our new judges b101 took it to a whole new level with the sub-comp awards which put a different spin and built anticipation leading up to the results show. Went above and beyond what you were asked, so thank you for putting that together!! Definitely cannot forget our play-thru guy gdog can't thank you enough for playing and giving feedback in a fun way. One thing many don't know is this is where some of the idea stemmed from, being on his TGC daystream where I met some great people/designers and getting to know them, G and some of them were the first people I pitched the idea too. This is even where we decided who would receive the 1st overall pick. So originally, I only requested maybe 10-12 play thru's which turned into 20, again thank you so much for all your hard work G! The results show, the anticipation, the production. Just an amazing job from again from VctryLnSprts and gdog for putting on a great show, and all the behind the scenes production work from @coasterroyalty thank you guy's for capping of the Dream Team Competition in such a brilliant way! As for next year, as many already know, the Dream Team Competition is now an OFFICIAL TGC Tours Design Contest and it could not of happened with each and everyone involved this year. Thank you to the directors for allowing me to run it next year and keeping this train rolling, have some new idea's and ways to improve that already has me excited for what happens in the 2020 TGC Tours Dream Team Competition!!!!

Our criteria is VERY simple - aesthetics, and funability/decision making. Scoring is not taken into account (seems our higher rated courses also had the higher scores). Our very simple criteria from ONLY a players point of view, 0-5 in each hole with a few other modifiers (first hole, last hole, flow from hole to hole and other things from a golfers point of view.
We took all default settings as this is what the designer wanted but also understand that sometimes what the designer wants and what HB gives them are not in sync. I was not cutting down Charleston as much as you think I was, particularly since I stopped designing with . . LINKS was it? Jack Nickolas? We also had zero idea who any of the designers are (we do now when we looked some amazing courses up).
We (there are a three of us) will get last two courses in the next couple days as the season has started. Overall some GREAT GREAT courses I hope we get to play in CCPro and a few went in the Favorites.
Thanks for the fun

Thanks for the fun Fair enough and glad you replied - perhaps I misinterpreted, but I do think your first post could have been better worded as it does look disparaging. FYI, default settings is all well and good, but some themes will put wind down to nearly zero as stock, which can kill a course. For example, I found Bayerischer WAY more fun with a medium/high wind, whereas the default wind (based purely on theme and whatever else HB decides) doesn't really do it justice. As designers, we have no control over wind, so that's one that you do need to play with a little. Totally agree that there were some quality courses in here, too. Sounds like a good metric and like I say, I would be keen to see what rankings you guys produce. As one final thing, we would have known most of the designers (kinda hard to avoid as their names pop up), but none of us knew who was on which team bar the captains.

OK - AGAIN - I stress this is all based on 3 old dudes with virtual handicaps in the 16-22 range (IRL handicaps in the 12 - 24 range) on how much we liked each hole and overall course layout aesthetics., difficulty, fairness and yada. Fun-ability basically from a pure golfer point of view (no current designers in the group). A few times lag came into account when all 3 had it but not often. Each holes was rated 0-5 and with small bonuses for first hole. Last hole and so forth.
Your results may vary. LOL
Team Winner was JC
TOP 10 courses in order
Geiranger GC, Norway Angel’s Edge Oasis Somnia Blackflag The Course at Cycad Reach Copper Dunes Far Water GC Das Eilte Bayerischer Golfplatz Colobanka Resort GC
And please remember these are totally meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

Well I certainly prefer my 5th place finish there than my no-better-than-11th official finish! I didn't get the chance to play any other course in this contest though, so I have to accept the judges results - and I do. I know they put a ton of effort and thought into this. And all of the judges are players or designers I respect greatly. In all honesty I really struggled with Cycad. I didn't like it very much from the start. Never felt right to me. Couldn't stand the 4th hole and was shocked when I got so much love for the 7th, I thought it was a disaster. I also really thought it was just going to come in near the bottom, but after seeing some of the reception it got - I sorta hoped that maybe it would end up such a fun course that it could sneak into the top 10 somewhere...between 10th and 5th. But it didn't, and I won't lie, it was a little disappointing. I got my hopes up a bit on nothing, even though I knew from the start it wasn't a great course. I have no expectations for it in the future. I'm glad people enjoy it as a fun course to play, because that's what I ultimately want to make - fun courses to play. If they don't do well in contests, so be it. I see what wins contests and I don't think I'll ever get to that level - and that's OK. If any of you haven't, please go play The Willowisp - that's the course I'm truly proud of. It's not perfect but it's by far the best work I've done. If I never make another course, at least I've made that one. I've learned that I just don't work well under a time limit to begin with, even the generous one we had for this contest. I think that I'll put out better courses in the future if I just complete them at my own pace.
