Welcome to Braintree, Massachusetts, the birthplace of the second President of the United States, John Adams, as well as his son John Quincy Adams, the sixth President of the United States! There are plenty of public places named after this famous family and my new fictional countryside course is now one of them!
John Adams Municipal Golf Course (published as “John Adams Municipal GC” due to character limit) is a fictional public course designed to be a low key, slightly quirky, fun, scenic, very playable course with some of the features of local public courses. The course is supposed to be that local course that is not a dramatic well known course, but a local classic from your youth that you always will remember.
This one is a bit of a “change up”… It’s the first time I have strayed from the tradition par 72. The layout is a par 70 playing 6547/6722/6955 yards from the traditional Red, White, and Blue (of course!). There are 4 par 5’s but only 1 on the front and 3 on the back, and there are 6 par 3’s (3 on each side). The greens are rolling at…you guessed it…the Spirit of ’76…176.
As the course is built on some rolling terrain and a hillside, there are some nice elevation changes. It is made to be versatile, so feel free to give it some wind, change the time of day, or soften the fairways or greens. I believe a West wind would play toughest, and East wind might be easiest. The first 9 is a little back and forth, close together as you see on many a public course around here (aka “bring your helmet!”), but the second 9 opens up and is a little different, another characteristic of some of the local old school courses.
So, sit back, grab a drink, relax and have at it! Hope you enjoy a round, a match, or perhaps a low key tournament at JAMGC!
Haven’t had time for too many pictures, but here are a few to start…
-The short par 4 11th
-The 17th fairway
-the 18th green
