In tournament play I sometimes prefer to play solo, no ghosts. Not that they are a huge distraction, it just feels more pure. I started thinking though that maybe I am putting myself at a disadvantage by not having ghosts along for the ride. Maybe they can occassionally give me reads on putts if I end up near one on the green. Or to check fairway rollouts or approach bounces. Could following a low scorer show me some shortcuts or better ways to play a hole like laying up? Do you use ghosts for assists? And how so? Do you switch to turn-based play at key moments? Watch replays of ghosts? Does it make tourneys more fun to play aside a friend or competitor? Or do you think this potential copy-cat play should be something HBS should allow tourney creators to make an on/off switch setting? Appreciate hearing others thoughts!

I dont play with ghosts, as I find it distracting, but I have had the same thoughts as you, and seen it for my self, that it can really be an advantage, if you get a ghost with somewhat same wind-conditions. Then you can see if youre going to carry that bunker/water-hazard, and where to play it on lay up.
But in tournament I turn them of no matter what, as I want to consentrate w/o distractions.

IMO I can't take much useful info. from playing with Ghosts. Without knowing what club or wind they have, maybe putts only. And that's if they have a similar lie. So a rare instance doesn't make up for the distraction.

I use ghosts in my practice rounds to see how the top players are playing the course. Once I've played a few practice rounds with them and made my notes I don't see much benefit from them.
So I rarely if ever use them in tournament

I use one ghost ball, cause in real life you play with another player during tournament play. (I even pick someone right next to me on the leaderboard)
If I have time I'll turn on turned base to watch their shots.

I rarely play against ghost balls. They are too distracting.
I do enjoy playing simul swing with live players though. Sometimes turn-based if I have the time.

This ^ I started playing with 1 or 2 ghost balls just to slow down my pace of play and to see how much roll-out the greens have.

I can't seem to use it..like it's grayed out or something..

I always use ghost balls for the occasional read or even to show me a shot that I didn't know about. But I don't really like wait for them to hit first I just have them on. Also interestingly enough I was playing PGA week 8 today and I quit then came back and I was playing against 7 ghost balls. The game bugged out and I hit my approach into 1s green and there was like 8 balls on the green and I was so confused lol.

I never play a tournament with ghosts on. Don't like the distraction.

I hardly ever use ghost balls either. Great feature, I just get distracted by them when I am trying to play serious.

In my practice rounds I play a ghost with turn based on, that way I see their club selection and wind. Never play ghost balls in a tournament though.
