So I’m just getting started in my TGC career and am fascinated by how thorough this whole community is. Impressive. I have played Tiger Woods games of old and the more recent Rory McIlroy game, but TGC 2019 is my first TGC experience. I downloaded it for free(!) and love the challenge it presents.
I was placed in CC-C after a -21 in Q school, which I believe was far too high... my first event I finished at -20 and received a demotion mark. Today I started the next tournament, double bogeying hole 2 after 4-putting. Finished the round at -5. In the second round got off to a hot start of -3 thru 5, only to finish -5 again, so -10 after 2 rounds. Might get cut with that idk yet.
Looking forward to starting the promotion event but since I’m probably already too high up I don’t think much will happen.
I am on Xbox which other seem to agree is a disadvantage, and I want to play with master clubs because that’s just my style. So I don’t plan to be winning anything for a while. Just play, improve, have fun for now.

And literally one day later I’m considering moving to pro clubs. Promotion event was awful, hole #4 had my number. +5 on that hole over the 4 rounds. -11 overall (-3, -5, -2, -1).

If I can give you a little advice, at least for the first month play with pro clubs. At least until you'll find your ideal position to have the majority of straight swings from tee to green and, above all, with putt and your short game. Just like you, me too had the wish to play from the start using master clubs (PC player with ps4 controller here, by the way), but after a bunch of days trying, I realized it was just too soon for them. I had a lot of problems, especially struggling to have a straight line on my putts and (still unsolved) on my chips. As a little final observation, consider also that, in fact, the courses (and the tees) used for the cc tourneys are selected generally having pro clubs users in mind. This means that the distance gap you'll suffer, looking at master clubs, is almost never a real handicap anyway. About your scores, don't worry. You'll see that practicing they'll improve pretty quickly. Your -20 it will be soon -30 and before that you realize it, you'll be good enough to score pretty constantly something between -30 and -36 and you'll be competitive enough to gain some promotion mark and finally why not, to win. Anyway, welcome and good luck

I did play with pro clubs offline until finding this TGC Tours community which was maybe 2 weeks after downloading the game. I find that driving I’m good on master, irons/wedges is where I struggle a lot with the tempo, chipping I have been alright after practicing with how far the clubs roll out, and putting I feel good with. Something about the iron/wedge swing messes with me. Maybe pro clubs will give me the room for error I need for now.

Uhm...maybe, if your problem is simply with tempo, working on it with pro clubs could be not so helpful. The habits you'll have using them (like how to minimize or maximize the power of your swing staying always into the blue perfect line) they could create some trouble when you'll skip again to the master clubs. So, if you're already good enough to hit straight shots (especially on putt and chips), probably it could be the right plan, to insist with master clubs. And when you'll switch from them to pro clubs, you'll be able to score really good (while the opposite don't works really well. ). For example, i'm still using pro clubs just cause the fatter blue line help me a lot on putts and chips, my real weakness, while I'm already pretty good on tempo with every club. And I'm also becoming really good to work on the power of my pro clubs swing, but I'm noticing how these habits creates issues when I play with master clubs. Everytime I need some round to forget and re-learn everything. Furthermore, I'm not fully sure about this, but i have the pretty strong feeling that, on short game especially, master clubs offers a lot of more spin on the ball. Actually, if you see you can have a straight line on every shot, insist with master clubs. Tempo's ossues will be solved. And finally this move will pay some dividend. Good golf and good luck

Okay well I will just have to work on my tempo a bit. I am generally able to hit within most of the blue line with the master clubs, my main issue sometimes is when I hit straight down straight up but just slightly right of center (parallel to the blue line) which is fine on drives but irons miss a yard or two right usually if I do that. I can live with that, usually still on the green.
My worst habit is the fast to very fast downswing because my thumb has been trained to flick up as fast as I can from the Rory McIlroy golf game, so that’s something I need to overcome. It just affects irons/wedges much worse than drivers.
Funny enough I’ve seen multiple people talk about hating the pitch shots, but I am thrilled to have a pitch from the fairway rather than a full lob wedge. The tempo of the pitch shot seems faster which helps me.
Thanks for the advice.

Oh, yeah..i never played Rory, but before to play this game i was a historic player of TW2014 on ps3. And i was still playing with that game when I tried this new game. So my first week whit TGC2019 has been a real drama. While i understood pretty soon the tempo needed for a good swing, every putt was a bomb. I couldn't make even a 3 feet putt, ending 7 feet beyond the hole every single time. The swing is a lot more sweet and the putt needs a caress to the stick, compared with that. In fact my idea was to continue to play both the games (I started a career with no aids on TW just some day before to buy TGC2019, and I liked the idea to continue it, a lot), but soon I realize that is simply impossible to play both the games. And me too prefer with few exceptions a pitch to a flop. There's something really wrong in the management of the carry distance with them. The ball flies tooooo much. Definitely. Not talking about the rolling. Pitches are a lot easier to control. But as before said, with master clubs flop shots are a bit easier, in my opinion, cause it seems to me the ball have much more spin, in these shots. Anyway I love this game. If HB fixes the difficulty differences between Xbox and ps3 controllers...and if they find a way a bit smarter to use the PGA licence (the "offline" game is awful, in fact), this could it be by far the best ever published golf game, for me.

Meh -2 for my 3rd round. Sitting at -12, onto the last round. Had a putt lip out and proceed to roll off the green and into the fairway so that’s fun. Believe it or not I like the very fast greens, the pins are tough to get at though when they sit on the front of a large green with very firm on. 6 birdies is typical for me, but 2 bogeys and a double will kill that.

Bogey free -8 saves my tournament a little, still -20 will probably get me another demotion mark, but I hit the ball much better today (even on the -2 round). Interested to see if next week CC-C’s competition changes much after the promotion event. Sticking with masters clubs for now.

Played the first 2 rounds of the true sim event today. +5 round 1 basically guaranteed I’d miss the cut, but I am thrilled to have shot -3 in round 2! My first under par round on true sim, this was my 6th official round. I believe true sim has forced me to improve my chipping, which I look forward to carrying into my normal events. I plan to continue playing true sim when I get bored after completing other events I care more about.
Do people do anything in true sim to “cheat”? Like playing a practice round and taking a video of the grid on each green or anything? Just seems like too much work for me unless I start caring more about this tour.

Maybe is better if you don't think too much about it. You could just lose every pleasure about competition. Anyway, is a great move, to play the TST. I'm sure you'll improve a lot and faster, doing so. I'll follow you, when I'll finish my work on the list and I'll have a bit more time to spend on my game. If you're interested, there's also at least another very good society where the TST concept is maybe even more radical. I can't remember the name right now, but I could easily find it again, if you're interested. Oh..and by the way..great score your -3 in the second round.

Haven’t seen anything official but it seems I’m staying in CC-C after the promotion event which is fine by me.
My -20 got me in 107th in the CC-C event which is the “sweet spot” where I don’t get an extra demotion mark but also keep the one I have. Want to finish top 100 this week to get rid of that demotion mark. Maybe it will be easier after the best of the field has moved up due to the promotion event.

Well I’d like to think I’m improving rapidly but I’m sure this week’s course is just easy. Shot -11 in round 1 (11 birdies 7 pars)! Hit every fairway and 16/18 greens. One very-fast pitching wedge but recovered for par. Other than that one shot it was great. Going to wait to play the next round until Tuesday I think, going to enjoy seeing my name toward the top on Monday (at least above 100th 😁).

Just put me on the pga already (kidding). I shot -11 again in round 2, missed 2 eagle putts on the edge. Very happy with my play lately. -22 is already my best tourney and I have 2 rounds to go!
Guess I’ll give the Open Qualifier a shot, why not.

What a tournament, just played the Open qualifier, yes all 4 rounds in one sitting. I was planning to take it slow but after a -2 round 1 and a slow start in round 2, I figured I had no prayer at hitting top 25, so I let loose.
I shot -1 for the tournament. But... I had 22 birdies and 2 eagles (-26 if I was bogey free!). Pretty insane. Only 54% GIR which won’t get it done.
