Finally after 10 years HBO brings one of the better modern day tv westerns to a close with a final chapter. Western buffs should be ecstatic!

One of my favourite ever shows.
Amazing characters and story, brilliantly acted, with possibly the best dialogue of any show I've watched.

One of the more authentic tv westerns ever produced imo. Maybe slightly over the top in a few instances but yeah, acting, story line, setting, brilliant!!
Hollyweird just doesn't do enough of em' (westerns) anymore sadly!!

I did see Godless, thought it was excellent although too short & loved that they took someone like Jeff Daniels & put him completely outside of his typical box.
Hell On Wheels was at least entertaining with the exception that it was made for commercial tv otherwise they could have cut loose on the likes of HBO or Showtime.

Jeff Daniels was ridiculously good in godless.

Too much dialogue in the movie. Westerns should be actionable.

I thought it was superb, the 3 seasons of Deadwood have always been about the characters and dialogue. The movie was a fitting conclusion to one of the best series on TV.

I think I need to re watch it. Felt a touch disappointed on first viewing.
The original 3 series will be held up as mankind's pinnacle of achievement when far future alien scholars find us after our extinction.
Hell On Wheels was a reasonable yarn, watched it until the end, but it was treading water in the final series. Godless was extremely well done and superbly acted throughout - but a bit too drawn out for me - the 15minute horse training montage nearly saw me off.
Not a western as such, but the best film ever, also of the time - There Will Be Blood.

Not a western as such, but the best film ever, also of the time - There Will Be Blood. it was transparent in that it took turns giving each character some time to remind us of their, well, character, and get an ending, but the dialogue and acting were superb as ever, and the storyline with utter was engaging. There were some genuinely moving moments towards the end too...
I love slow stuff, so not a moment of godless was wasted on me!
There will be blood is bloody amazing.

Gotta agree with all said so far - Deadwood is the definitive Western series/movie. So glad they capped it off with the movie. And I loved Godless!!
There Will Be Blood is up there with the very, very best movie in the genre. I have to add True Grit (the 2010 version) also.

I didn't get into westerns until well after I got into most other stuff.
My favourite westerns are-
The good, the bad, the ugly Tombstone (just great fun!) Unforgiven
And my two absolute favourites, that I think are amazing, the assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert ford and the proposition.

Recent western Forsaken with Kiefer and Donald Sutherland was enjoyable and I really liked Hostiles from last year with Christian Bale. Unforgiven is still my favourite western with True Grit (2010) a close second followed by Open Range.
