I know I am a total beginner, so this may improve with time, but I am having a huge problem with long putts - and very long putts. even though I think I have the aim marker set pretty far (and appropriately for the distance), I often leave 40-foot putts like 20 feet short.
did anyone have this problem early on?
I tried the Colonel Sanders putting course, and I think my feel may be improving.
just curious if anyone had this problem...

Don't be afraid to to hit the putt hard. On the long putts I usually bring the putter pretty far back and swing hard. It takes some getting used to but you'll eventually get a feel for it.

Are you using mouse or gamepad? If using gamepad just hold the backswing longer to get more power. Mouse users will have to advise you on tips as I don't use one.

Yeah, it takes longer for the HB golfer to pull the putter back enough than what you may think. I use timing only, pull stick full back and then go forward when I feel the putter has been pulled back enough. You can try to pull stick back partially, but for me at least it does not feel natural and also messes with my forward stroke. Just like in real life, actually.

And i have become much more confident on my 20 footers, but anything longer and i really struggle. I get the ball halfway there! I just have to let the putter swing further back, obviously.

This might be a dumb question, but are you allowing for elevation changes in putting? A 40' putt that is 10" uphill is a much different animal than a 40' putt that is flat. But in general, when I started, I had to learn that the putting backstroke had to be a lot longer across the board than what I 'saw' in my minds eye. Just took a little getting used to. Also, try using different camera views (Left stick button on PS4, not sure what it is on XBone), you may find one that suits your eye a bit better and gives you a better perspective.
