I've finally published my first new course in... *checks calendar* over two years, Doubtful Island GC. I started working on it in TGC2 after the U.S. Open last year and almost completed it before TGC19 was released, so it's been sitting in my unpublished courses folder for 7 or 8 months. Now, after I put the finishing touches on it over the last few days, the course is ready for release. The course is very loosely inspired by Shinnecock Hills, and it looks and plays as you would expect from me: firm and fast with deadly runoffs, coupled with a complete lack of trees and minimalist aesthetic. It is, as the name implies, on an island, but water is in play on only four holes. The course is a par 72, and there are just two sets of tees, white (7,156 yards) and black (7,559 yards). In terms of default conditions, everything is maxed out, except for the green speed, which is 174. If you have a slight masochistic streak, you can turn them up to 187 -- they're playable but quite challenging at that speed. Here is the course scorecard: ![](http://i.imgur.com/pdg0L44.png) And here is an extremely low-budget course map, certainly not as fancy as the ones those PC guys do: ![](http://i.imgur.com/hiVrXKA.png) Finally, a shot of the closing hole: ![](http://i.imgur.com/DQPAV9N.png) Any feedback and constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks in advance to anyone who plays. Good luck, and enjoy your round!

When done properly, the simplistic approach is one of the most realistic looking on the game... think O-Hara Links. Looking forward to having a round on this one.

Enjoyed my round here this afternoon, especially with Doubtful in the stream observing.
The minimalist planting approach works fine on this course, and although a few outcroppings of vegetation might have teased the eyes a little, it didn’t seem lacking either. The hole designs flowed together nicely, and despite not being overly challenged too much from the tee, planning the approach shot was essential to having a favorable putt at birdie.
If you enjoy links golf, this course is for you and well worth the play.

I was definitely interested to see what you'd think of it, since I know you place more of an emphasis on planting and overall course look than I do. Glad to see that it didn't detract from the course too much in your eyes. It's unquestionably a second-shot golf course, but I think most holes reward drives that are played boldly and/or intelligently. A good example is the 7th hole, where you could've had an additional 20-30 yards of rollout if you'd taken the aggressive line over the bunkers. Simply hitting the fairway is great, but you can usually give yourself an advantage for the next shot by finding the proper position off the tee. I think wide fairways generally lend themselves to a more interesting and strategic brand of golf, which I hope is evident when playing the course.

Loving your course map by the way! #manufactureddifficulty #shiitdesign #fookmepink Ha ha! I have actually played it in Swing and Miss. There are some places we do NOT want to be tonight partner! But at least no chance of getting stuck behind a tree 👍😂

It's a typical Griffin course. He has a knack for these, to call the planting minimal would be to over exaggerate how much he's done! But the hole designs are so so clever, and the green complexes punishing but fair. It's another great course. But, I'd love to see him move away from this style and give us something different. One of these courses with a bunch of good eye candy would be awesome. The challenge is there, just give us a @!$#ing tree or two!! It's good though Griffin, good enough to make rhino4life swear at you later! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

After seeing much hoo-ha recently about this course I decided to give it a whirl. It's a minimalistic looking course bar the odd gathering of grass throughout it, kinda reminded me of Havre Hills but less undulating. The main defence of the course would be the greens which will let inaccurate shots slide off. From what I seen there was no hard to read putts and I found the hole a couple of times from plus 30ft. My tip for players would be stay away from the edge of the green even if it means a long putt.
Yes it is a bare bones course with well sculpted bunkers and greens that can prove tricky. The main focus of any designer should be the course and all the dressing up should be second to it.
