It is a tough thing to go through, especially when the dog is truly a part of your family. Hope, had a great life thanks to you and your family. I lost Xena, (my avatar) 18 months ago and still think of her.
Karma, not to derail away from Hope or anything, but I had a rottweiller/beagle mix about 15-20 years ago, also named Xena!

Put my dog Ellie in my avatar also in honor of Hope. Hope now has a legacy here

Enjoy doggy heaven Hope.
I've yet to experience losing a dog as an adult. We had a family dog when I was a child that died. My family have a Beagle now, she's 6 and she's our first dog. She has more life in her now than when she was 2, thanks to the local supervet who fixed her bad knees and hips. It's going to be a wrench when she passes away, particularly to my 3 year old daughter who adores her and even uses our dog's old lead to take her on 'walks' round our garden as well as going when we all go out.

I still think often of all 4 dogs i've had (my mum has one now that i still think of as my dog, even tho i don't see him much) in my life. We lost one really young, in tragic circumstances, when i was a kid, and it was heartbreaking. My mum grieved the same as if it was a person. She was messed up for weeks.

My deepest condolences. Remember - you loved your furry family member, and they loved you, and that is a life worth sharing.
