Hi guys. First of all, sorry for my english, i'm an autodidact. I'm an italian guy who really love golf, so almost two months ago i started to play this beautiful game and to follow this outstanding tour and, above all, this wonderful community that is the real beating heart of the whole thing. Until now i don't partecipate in every society or in the whole tour just cause my pc controller was a cheap one (problem solved yesterday whit a new ps4 controller ), so i spent my time (apart the continuous training) trying to understand how the tour and the community works and, if possible, looking for a way to give some contribution. Cause honestly i feel in debt with all of you for your continous effort to keep this game always new and alive with ideas, stunning courses, new challenges. And maybe i have found a way to be helpful. Or, at least, it's something i wish to expose you. Nothing revolutionary, but i hope useful.
Being the PGA tour of the game absolutely "predetermined" and sooo sad and frustrating, i start some weeks ago my personal pga season in my society, with the idea to put in game a pair of courses from various continents and while i was working on the schedule, i noticed how into the courses list of the tgct , is missed the nationality (or even just the continent). Obviously i understand is not a big issue, cause they are almost all fantasy courses, but i started anyway to "fix it", just for my amusement and curiosity...and even just to have an idea of what we have. So I started a notebook (i'm an analogic guy, i prefer use pencils instead keyboards ) where to keep the count of my research.
I'm just proceeding in this way, just to explain myself better : when a designer in the notes put his course in some real country or continent, i follow his willing. When nothing is said about it, i search on google the name of the course and often (almost always to tell you the truth) something interesting jumps out and doing so i found a reliable state and continent for almost every course. If after every effort i can't find some good indication, the course stays "free" to be everywhere (or nowhere, point of wiews i suppose). Sometimes the name of a course is ascribable to two or even more countries or continents. In this case i simply report everything, with the idea to choose a continent and country after a round played in that course to understand what is the choise more reliable looking at environment, plants , to find the place that match better. I follow some other criteria, but for now i just wish to give you an idea of what i'm doing.
So..in the end..(and sorry for the long explanation) my first proposal is that, if some of you thinks that it could be useful, i can start to prepare an excel table with this data (and others useful things like par, yardage, number of par 3 and par 5, stuff like this to decide together with who could be interested). Maybe it's a stupid tought, i know it, but i like the idea to know if and how much courses we have in africa, or in california, or in middle east, for example. I think it could be useful even for who provides the schedule for the challenge tour, the web.com and the european tour or just a public society or who, just like me, simply want to start a tournament with a bit of different, more "international" and less fantasy atmosphear. .
But, following this little work i'm doing, i had another idea. Probably you have already valued and discarded this thing and simply i'm not aware about this, but..considering how much the tour is alive and thriving, why don't create something like the australasian and/or the sunshine tour to put between the european and the web.com tour? The challenge tour would be less huge and people could compete for something more important and i think it would be good. Anyway, you know better than me for sure what to do with the tour. Anyway..until now, in my list i have more or less 50 asiatic courses, 40 in oceania, adozen in africa. 40 in center/south america, 120 in europe, 40 in canada and almost 200 in the usa.
Obvoiusly in this count there are not only the tgct approved courses, cause this thing it was just for my curiosity and use, so i was thinking to try and get a chance to every course and to decide by myself if to cut or keep one. It's understood that if we run this idea for the tour, it would be only about the tour approved courses, then a lot of courses in my list would be chopped out, but apart the fact that i think i'm barely at the 40% of the total courses approved.by tgct there's the fact that at least a new valid course pops out on daily bases.
Obviously, on every course the last word about the choice of country and continent would be the one of the designer, if interested. And the table would be open and modifiable by everyone have the wish to collaborate. And..well, that's all. If you believe that it could be a good idea, i start immediately to make a tgct approved courses list. Otherwise, i'm anyway happy : at least i tried. And i'll try again if i have some other idea to share. Let me know what you think about all of it. Thanks.
