My story is a long one and most of you know by now what my history is like so i won't bore you to death. Lets just say it has been a roller coaster journey.
2014
I still remember these days very well. I joined up to the tours as soon as i could after finding out they were a thing. That was in September. Exhibition events were run and the number of people playing was nowhere near the amount we have now. The community was much smaller although still really fun. After these events had finished the first Q-School was set up and oh my......Son Gual was a course i remember well. Hopefully i am correct in saying it was quite difficult back then. I don't remember every detail of course because the information is not readily available on the main site. I shot -39 if i remember correctly over the 6 courses we had to play. I somehow managed to qualify for the first event which began the following January.
2015
Back when TGC Tours was just getting going we could choose what tour we wanted to be on if we finished in a certain position. I could be completely wrong there. Feel free to correct me. I chose PGA and got myself into the first event which was the Tournament of Champions. We played at Ascension Bay (definitive EDN) and that course i really liked a lot back then. I somehow managed to sneak a top 10 despite not being that good at the game. It was definitely a bit surprising as i wouldn't really fare much better the rest of the season with only two other top 10s. There were 7 missed cuts thrown in there most likely down to my shots being offline (yes in TGC1 ) or it could have just been me raging, i can't remember! Anyway the first official season was a lot of fun despite the mostly bad results.
I did compete on the European Tour as well but the results were similar, nothing to shout home about.
There are also so many people who competed back then that are no where to be seen now which is a shame
2016 (15/16 season)
The next season started in 2015 (wraparound) and it started slowly with a T21, T23 and T27 on PGA as well as a MC in the very next event after those 3. Not the start i was hoping for because i had put in a lot of work to get better and it may have been my lack of patience that had caused a slow start to the season. I kept plugging away and the work payed off when i managed a T9 and T7 in consecutive weeks at the end of November (2015). I also managed a T8 on the Euro Tour in the last event before Christmas so i was happy when finishing the year. The Genesis Open in the middle of February of 2016 came around and this was the first event that i felt i played very well. It was a tough course and i remember SweetTeeBag playing very well here. He deserved the win and i can't be unhappy with T3. My first proper showing on the tours. This must have the been the kick start i needed because i finished T6 the very next week at The Honda Classic, then a T12 and two straight Top 10s after that. I will ignore the 74th place finish after the Match Play
Despite that terrible showing and a T61 at the Valero i had some very good results and one of them came at the Masters. I managed to finish 3rd alone behind ijs1543 and Kenny. I did originally finish 4th but a certain somebody had all their results removed. We won't go there . This is where i really though i had my first win. The Colonial. I had just come back from a weeks holiday in Spain and was not expecting much from myself but to my surprise i managed to get myself into a playoff with Morgan-esque and just got pipped to the title. A solo third the week after had confirmed to me that i was on the right track and should just keep pushing. I knew it would all come together at some point. I finished my PGA season with 4 straight top 10s, 3 of which were top 5s.
There were also 3 other 2nd place finishes but i didn't have a great chance in any of them. Doesn't help when you have a well oiled machine running riot!
2017 (16/17 season)
Again the next season began at the end of year (2016). I was having a lot of problems as a lot of you know so my presence around the place was non existent at times. I have had numerous bans due to my temper and after having a good season i really shouldn't have let myself get into such a state. Maybe it was just real life problems. Anyway my first good event of the season was the Frys.com Open, a T5. I then managed a T4 and a 4th place at the Franklin Templeton Shootout to end 2016. Now at the start of 2017 itself i had my best run to date on the tours. I finally managed to put 4 great rounds together although it was a secondary event and not a full field one (Montego Bay Classic). I pulled out an 8 shot win and now i come to think of it there was plenty of great players in the field with me and i should be really happy about my result which i am! Now comes what i was not expecting........my first full field event win at the Sony Open.....the very next week. The first 3 rounds were solid and then i lit up the last round with a 56 (-17) to finish at -54 and a 5 shot win. The Saturday night of that week i was trembling and shaking like it was a real life event. There were still a few people left to finish and they could have easily one themselves but my awesome last round sealed the deal.
I was on top of the world after finding out i won.........for 2 days. For some reason i lost the will to play the game and it must have been the relief after having finally won that stopped me from playing any more. I didn't play on the PGA again until the end of March and somehow i managed a T2 along with DoubtfulObelisk . We finished at -63, only 1 shot behind Paulo. This still didn't kick me into gear and i stopped playing again until i played the BMW PGA Championship on the Euro tour at the end of May and finished T74. Perfectionism is not a good thing at all and i was demanding the best at all times and would instantly get down when a shot didn't come off a certain way. 2 weeks later back on the PGA tour i finished T2 at the FedEx St. Jude. I didn't know what to think of it because my mind was all over the place. I pull out that result despite demanding the best out of everything. I must have just clicked in every aspect. It could have easily all gone downhill in that tournament.
2017 was turning out to be a mixed year. I had managed to win twice but my temper and perfectionism were getting worse and this caused me to be banned for what seemed like a long time from the tours alongside the forums. I was having a torrid time and i only have myself to blame really. The admin could only do what they found best fit the community. My next event was the BMW Masters at the end of September which was of course a missed cut. I can't remember if this tourney was played in TGC2 but either way i wasn't going to play well. I played 3 more tourneys on the PGA Tour in October and because we now had a tempo swing i could not play to save my life. Despite trying my best i finished no better than T89 in those tournaments. All 3 were missed cuts.
2018 (17/18 season)
I didn't play much of TGC2 at all due to my hatred of the tempo swing. I was not used to playing this way and despite work to find a way to improve i had no luck and just stopped playing. This mean't no TGC Tours participation. TGC2019 came out in the August of this year and again the tempo swing returned which i was not happy about but most people like it so HB can't cater to my every need
My first event on TGC2019 was the Mayakoba Golf Classic and yes it was a MC along with the very next week. The downswing in the tempo swing really killed me and still does to this day. I played in my next event in the middle of February (2019).
2019
So much time without actually playing an event. I won't mention the other tourneys. They were just torrid in every way. To be honest i don't know why i played them. The most recent tourney to be played was at the Valero Texas Open at the start of April. I have only made two cuts recently and they were both secondary events and not full field ones. Doyley then emailed me along with others asking if we wanted to be demoted down from the PGA and i said yes with the first event on the Euro tour being this week........also going to be a missed cut. It's such a shame i can't find 100% piece with the current game because i love this place despite my bad temper episodes. Scott and the rest of the team knows that because i wouldn't stick around and asked to be allowed back if i didn't really care. When you have been part of something for nearly 5 years you don't just chuck it all away despite your best efforts (dig at me).
Anyway that is all for now. All the staff do a great job of running this place as they have so much rubbish they have to put up with and all for no pay! I find that astonishing really. They have a true passion for it all. Thank you for everything you do!
I will of course stick around despite what i say here and there. Participation in tournaments may be low but because i am starting to make some online friends i will be around the community for a while yet. There are some people who have been really supportive of me and i appreciate every bit of support! You guys know who you are.
