Since its this week, thought I'd make a thread for any interested.
Do we believe that Arizona is going with Murray? I think they do.
Will Gettleman pull the trigger on a QB or wait till later in the round? I think Gettleman grabs the best defender and thinks he can get a QB at the next pick.
And what is Chucky/Ghost of Al/Jon Gruden planning with his "surprise" pick at 4, that is supposedly so secret that he told his team not to come back till draft day? LOL No one knows what the spider2ybanana will do, but lets hope he listens to Mayock at least. This could be the funny story of the night.

Eagles got a big need - Jason Peters heir-apparent.
Excellent 1st round pick. An offense goes no where without a working o-line.

Josh Jacobs is a beast.

Love Josh Jacobs and that pick! Now I'm trying to figure out how far and how to move up in a fanstasy league to get him.
I hope Eli2.0 pans out for the Giants. Seems like a good kid, and lots of bad reviews going around on that one.
I was ok with Haskins until I saw how he interviewed, and acted. that turned me off.
And as a Denver fan, I'm glad we didn't pick Drew Lock in the first round. I'm tired of seeing Elway's first rd QB picks go wrong. I know Flacco isn't the answer. I just want him to get us to next year when the crop is better.

I hope Eli2.0 pans out for the Giants. Seems like a good kid, and lots of bad reviews going around on that one. Not optimistic. Basically all the compliments that Daniel Jones has been getting are about his character and his "fiber". The Giants haven't once said anything good about his ability to throw a football to his teammates. Time will tell. Fans booed Phil Simms and Simms struggled for a couple of years, but it worked out in the end. The Giants should have picked Josh Allen at 6. But again, time will tell. It's just really hard to figure out what Gettleman is doing, and it feels like he doesn't understand how to maneuver around the draft to make the team better.

He is a great drafter. 1st round last year, he lands Barkley, 2nd round he gets a stud left guard in Will Hernandez 3rd round he gets Lorenzo Carter and BJ Hill, both of which were impact players last year. Yesterday he drafted an absolute tank of a nose tackle in Dexter Lawrence and a shut down corner in DeAndre Baker. Only pick that appeared off pudding was Daniel Jones, I felt they should have got with Haskins at 6, but if Jones plays to the capacity that Gettlemen is hoping to get then the pick will be looked at as brilliant 2-3 years from now

NYG could have waited to get him if they felt he was their future at QB. I feel they wasted the pick in that slot in a very big way. Meaning they lost Odell and could have replaced him with Hollywood Brown and still got the Duke QB with the second 1st round pick.

He took a RB in a QB heavy draft with a current QB who's past his prime. Barkley was a horrible pick.

Those are asinine numbers for a rookie. Only QB that impressed last year was Mayfield, but he went 1st overall last year. RBs like Barkley rarely come along. QBs like Josh Allen, Sam Darnold, and Josh Rosen are a dime a dozen. You mean to tell me you'd rather have those 3 QBs over Barkley? Hell as it potentially stands, the Giants might end up with Rosen and Barkley and they would have missed out on Barkley last year.

I have to agree with golferdude1994 Gettleman is top notch. When he was in Carolina, he had them in their prime. Then when they stupidly let him go, and brought Hurney back, they slid downhill.
The thing that people don't get, I think, is that Gettleman won't put up with egos and crap from players. His talent is not so much in talent, but its more in properly managing a football team, for the long haul, balancing talent, with players that work hard and don't think too much of themselves, and managing the money so it can continue. Watch the G-men. If he stays with them, they will emerge in a couple years and be a force for as long as he is there. That said, I do agree that he should have taken someone else at 6 and could have still got Jones at 17. We think. Maybe he knew something we didn't. LOL I love reading those accounts after the fact, of what went on with trade talks, and drafts and we only see the outcomes, and I think wow, I had no idea all that was happening behind the scenes.
Well, my boi Elway got his boy tonight. Wasn't a secret that he wanted Drew Lock. I'm still glad he didn't take him with his first pick. I'm ok with waiting till mid second. Now let him sit and learn a year, and lets hope for a franchise man.
But the best moment of the night?
It was this right here.

I laughed so hard when I saw that Barkley was an awful pick last year.

As great as Barkley is, running backs have low value compared to other positions, and good value at RB can be found later.
Running backs have a much shorter shelf life than that of other positions.
A running back picked at #2 automatically becomes top-5 in cap hit among players at his position.
A quarterback picked at #2 is paid at a discount compared to other players at his position. Quarterbacks have much longer shelf life. Value in QB is not really found late in drafts, with some notable exceptions.
For a team with an aging QB coming off a 3-13 season, considering how far from a championship contender the Giants were and their tenuous cap situation, quarterback was the pick. The Giants should have picked Darnold.
Instead, by the time the Giants are good again, Barkley will be in his 4th or 5th year and will likely have just 2 or 3 prime years remaining.
Is that worth it?
That doesn't seem like allocating resources smartly.
If Jones turns out to be great, then it's a moot point and it worked out. But none of the draft experts think Jones has a high chance of being good.

Yes i would rather have allen, darnold, rosen, or Jackson than Barkley. Those qbs are a dime a dozen, buy you have to keep spending dimes until one of those dozen pans out. RBs are a thing of the past. You can find good ones anywhere and not spend capital to do it. Barkleys 2000 yards got them five wins last year. Congratulations. Have fun watching him run for over 100 yards in a loss (they were 3-4 last year when he did).

So by drafting a RB that high you have set yourself up for a situation. In 4 more years you will either let him walk which further proves it was a bad pick, or you sign him and tie up a lot of capital which also proves its a bad pick. You look at the perennial power houses you can see money isn't tied up in RBs. It actually all revolves around the passing game. It's Qb, then guys who can get to the qb (edge rushers 3-technique tackles), then your offensive line or recievers.

Barkley made top-5 money - something like $8M - as soon as he was drafted due to the rookie salary slotting. A QB at that price is backup-money. In fact, Josh McCown made $10M to be Darnold's backup in 2018.
