Went back and played Cypress again this afternoon on pin 2 and I think I appreciated it even more. It's a great pinset - there are some good opportunities (I think you must have made a mistake as I had a flat eagle putt at one point lol) and looking forward to playing the others. Still have no idea how to play 18 other than hope to scramble for par though... I wanted 18 to be a half-par hole, with the idea that if a match or tournament was tied going into the final hole, you really need to hit all of your shots well in order to give yourself the best chance to win. One errant tee shot makes recovery for par extremely difficult, and the long approach makes it critical to put yourself in a spot where you can hole out in two and take your half stroke on the field. I have no idea how the hole is actually handicapped, but that was my thought process behind it. Can't beat a long par 4 finisher IMO.

Hi. First of all mr petty I would just like to tell you that you have broken my heart, because I really really wanted to learn the designer first and then create a Monterey style course with pretty much the same visual feel, now I feel like I’d be stepping on your toes if I were to do so... But.. you have truly created a masterpiece, it’s my most played course on the game firmly fixed atop of my favourites list. Pls don’t be pissed if in a couple of months you see a similar design course by yours truly. Now forgive me for not being up to date with things but when will the competition be decided?? I’ve seen all the entries via the you tube vids uploaded by Canuck, but sure this will win hands down!!

I think we all borrow ideas and inspiration from other courses in game or in real life. Glad you like the course and thanks for the comments! I won’t spoil the ending for you, the link to the VOD that Dwain posted above is definitely worth the watch.

Sorry, I’m in denial... Robbed..!!.. Just played the winning venue. Nicely done, nice contours, good stadium feel, nice greens.... but the vision you’ve used to take steppe and turn it into what it is, and the cypress trees.. man!! Have you any other courses I can spy.. I mean play on..

After a few rounds here (missing the putting course) I feel like I want more, I'm addicted to the course bryan. Why not calling it cocaine dunes or something? it'd be as descriptive
Superb is a little word compared to how I like this course, really well done man

This course is a beauty. I'm not the good one to say how much good it looks, but for me is gorgeous to see. And i don't even like the steppe/desert theme. But you just transformed it in something else. The environment is beautiful. Immersive. And is tough,of course, but is various. And this matters. Those so different par 3s are a joy to see and to play. But above all,is a great test for your ability to made the right decision from the tee and then decide what part of your game you want to test. So you need to think about every shot, a lot, but there's always a good spot where to place the ball if you don't screw up everything with your swing (and i do it, of course! ). I played first pin conditions just to check the course, i scored a -4 making a lot of stupid errors and crooked swings, but while i played the course i was simply too busy to enjoy the ride to think seriously about my score. And with all these premise,i'm sure it will play everytime different. Unbelievable. So..Thank you, really, for this great course.

What happened to this course? Doesn't come up in the search. With all the accolades it got, surely he ported it over. Tried it on TGC19 but didn't go well. I'm pretty hopeless on that game now.

Check out 17 Mile Club. I've played 17 mile a couple of times. Also played Monterey Dunes and Calamity Bay but this looks harder.

I agree this course is one of my all-time classics to. But he told me about a month ago, looking back, he wasn't happy with it and wouldn't port it. gamesdecentWeigh in here please, the minions have spoken, we demand it in the game! Cypress Dunes! Cypress Dunes!
