I enjoyed the course. I played pin set #1. I'd hate to see the Sunday pins. Default green speeds, high winds.
My playing partner hated it. He thought no golf course would have that much sand in the fairways at all the proper landing distances. I thought it was a lot of sand too, but not unplayable by any means and it made me think about my tee shots verrrry carefully.
He also thought the greens were overcooked. Example is the driveable par 4 on the back nine (16? 17?). He played a 1-iron off the tee to the part of the fairway near the grandstands and hit a gap wedge into the green. He landed on the upper part of the green's right-to-left slope and short of the pin. The ball rolled past the hole and completely off. I estimated about a 50-60 foot roll. With a gap wedge.
I attacked from below the pin on the other part of the fairway and came up a little short of the pin. The ball rolled back off the green. Had I hit it past the pin, it would have rolled off the back of the green.
That's really the only green I had an issue with. The other greens were challenging but you could get close if you anticipated the slope. Putts were readable with no grids and not unfair.
Overall, very nice work! Cheers.

That's probably a fair critique on the cross bunkers, but it's also a lot easier to place a tee shot wherever you want it in a video game than it is on a real golf course, and there's usually a pretty wide landing area further from the hole if you don't want to attack any bunkers. #14 is driveable, but sounds like you're talking about #17 which is short but not driveable, and is designed to play more difficult the safer you play off the tee. Sounds like your partner laid up down the middle and probably had the blind shot over the dune into a very steeply sloped green running away from him. It is going to be tough (maybe impossible) to hold from that angle. Did either of y'all bogey it or were they easy up and downs for pars? I'd be interested to go watch the ghost balls later.

I'd say you'd achieved that goal. In spades. You described his second shot exactly. We both bogeyed, but only because we both duffed our chip shots. My PS4 ghost ball: BelluneDad, Blue #1. Master clubs. No aids. Finished at +4 or +5 or something awful like that. Too many missed fairways. I had a good plan, I just didn't execute it very well.

Hey man. I decided to see how sadistic your pin 2 set was and my god man. I did stream it as well, you should put a 1k prize on making birdie on the 18th. I used the bailout on the right for an easy up and down, just too many bad areas around there.
If your short game is bad you probably could shoot 100 on this set. I escaped with a -8 but I'm not confident I could do it again. I hope all the courses have a set like this, I know mine does
I feel compelled to say that I hit 2 f/f drivers to get to that bailout area.. so for many this might not reachable.. I LOVE IT!!

I LOVE IT!! -17 through round 2 at the US Open isn't bad at all. I may or may not have targeted you specifically with a F/F trap in a few of places, but there's also holes like #11 where back-to-back F/F can gain you a stroke or two. Glad you like it, make sure you drop the green speeds to moderate before your round 3 though.

Also gave the round 2 setup a try as a feeble CC-A player. Managed a +2, going to give it another spin later. Can we get this setup in a CC tournament just so I can watch everyone pull their hair out? Edit - Gave Round 2 another go and had it -3 through 6 only to fade to +1 again. Then tried Round 3 setup and the course played totally different. This and West Coast Norway are my favorites.

Ok I just walked off the 18th, played pin2 and all I can say is Wow!! Although tough you can still score if you play smart. I put away the driver on at least 5 or 6 holes, can't remember and still walked off with a +3. Now I play True sim and rarely shoot under par so yeah I was very happy with the round. The sight lines on this course are great not to mention the scenery Great job......

So I played this in the sim tonight from the red tees which were like 6600 yards and put the greens at slow and soft because they'd probably be unplayable at default level. Shot +4 which wasn't too bad but I had to grind to get that score. I ended up in every bunker on the fairway no matter how good or bad my drive was Maybe not built for sim play but definitely an amazing course.

You'll love Sweetens though, the LIDAR is disgustingly good. Chad definitely made the right choice.

One bump back to the front for the first weekend after the deadline date. Thrilled with the feedback on this one so far.

Finally got round to playing this - it's been on the list for a while! Just an awesome-looking course and I actually think my favourite aspect was how clever the fairway bunkering was. I think Hole 15 was the one that made me think the most: I didn't have the courage for the left hand fast lane and wherever else I looked, there was potential danger. For me, that's what a course like this should be all about - risk/reward without immediately looking like risk/reward. Greens were tricky in places, but I had a gorgeous pitch in from absolute death on (I think) 7. The coastal holes were outstanding as well. Finished +1 after a dodgy three putt on 18:
Not a massive fan of the mulch look, but the creativity to think of it, and the theme in general, outweighs that IMO. Great work and best of luck

Played this (belatedly) after Brian mentioned it on the show on Thursday (SOoooo many awesome courses coming out lately it is almost impossible to keep up with them all!); WOW. Just a true masterpiece. Gorgeous aesthetically, extremely original and unique; super challenging to play, with thought needing to be put into every shot; great routings and some really masterful green complexes. I could play this one over and over and never get tired of it. I could write up a five page critique of all the different aspects of this course that I like, but I think I'll just sum it up with: DAMN.
Well done Brian! Best of luck in the contest.

Great entry here. Very challenging course, lots of decisions to be made, especially off of the tee. Loved the look of the entire course but in particular the big waste bunkers. Great use of that with the mulch, walkways and plantings. Played this with a buddy that’s very new to the game, can’t count the amount of times on the flyovers he said holy sh!t. Great work.
