Hi,
I know there's been threads about using un-official controllers with generous deadzones that are outlawed for Tour use but can anyone shed any light on the following alternative PS4 controllers;
1. Nacon Revolution Pro (apparently this is officially licensed by Sony)
2. HORI ONYX
3. Razer Raiju
You may have guessed that I'm looking for an Xbox shaped controller for PS4 because I've switched due to Master Clubs disparity on the consoles.
Definitely not a fan of the DS4 controller!
Thanks for your help!

None of those are going to pass. It's DS4 or nothing on PS4.

That's interesting because two of those controllers are licensed officially by Sony and are also allowed to be used in professional gaming events where some other controllers are not.
Why would they not pass?
Have you got sample data from them already? Does your algorithm tell you what controller someone is using or can you only work off the dispersion data and assume someone is using an aftermarket controller?
Thanks

Officially licensed just means manufactured by someone other than Sony but that manufacturer paid Sony to put the Playstation name on the box. It doesn't mean that Sony endorses the product in any way. It just means they were paid for the right to use the Playstation name.
And, yes, we've had users try to play with those controllers and they don't pass our API check for Fair Play because they don't provide the same level of difficulty as stock controllers. We don't specifically outlaw any controller...but we're also not aware of any of these controllers (or other third party controllers) passing...though we are aware of many of them failing.
And it's all data based...we don't know what controller is in use.

Thanks Jeff, so basically it would be a gamble to putt one of these in play.
If someone isn't a particularly straight swinger and one of these controllers improved that but stayed within the fair play API limit - I'm guessing it will not flag up?

It depends. A lot of the time, these third party controllers produce what we call zero-deviation shots...basically shots that don't fully register and the game just treats them as straight. That's the biggest problem. If the shots don't properly register, it doesn't really matter how good the user is...that's still going to result in a flag by the system.

Sorry to bang on about this but one of the more expensive aftermarket options has the ability to adjust analog stick sensitivity - is it not within reason that you could adjust this so it doesn't fail API Fair Play?

I feel an expensive trial and error coming on here.. Sorry for all the questions! Don’t bother. Get used to the DualShock 4. I have a nasty habit of breaking controllers. No I’m not 12. I just act like it sometimes. My goal was to find a cheaper alternative to DS4. When TGC2 came out there were several weeks where events did not count. I tried several controllers during that time and all but 1 failed API right away. Including licensed by Sony ones. So I struggled with by mental issues breaking fewer ds4 controllers during season 3. One week September 2017 I think I used that one aftermarket controller that did not initially fail API before season 3 and TGC2 began because, well I had no more ds4 because of my stupidity. It failed and I had to take a DQ. Fast forward to when TGC19 came out. There was a kids version of the controller for ds4 that came out. Licensed by Sony. I bought one because these were only $20. Practiced with it and noticed I wasn’t hitting straight. Seemed pretty close to ds4. So before this season started we had 2 practice events that didn’t count but the newest API was run. That controller failed in the 3rd of 4 rounds. So I’ve been using ds4 ever since. Only broke 2 controllers so far this year. Only...LOL Save your money!!!

Out of curiosity, on the swing meter of the line comes out crooked does that mean it’s registering the shot authentically? As in do aftermarket controllers just create billet straight lines on the swing meter no matter the quality of the motion? Cheers

They're all different but as to your scenario, what happens most times is that a shot that is way off will still be way off even on an aftermarket controller. But shots that are near to straight all register with no deviation.
There are some that do as you say, register every single shot with zero deviation but those are rarer, I would say.
Keep in mind that I'm only seeing the data, I don't really get to see the screen when people are using these.

Thank you, I’m trying a different controller that is showing normal deviation I.e the fast tempo goes left, slow goes right etc. And also the line on the swing meter has a fairly normal slightly skew wiff line on it. Seems normal.
How do I go about checking this data before jumping in the deep end please?
Thanks
