Hi all, new release is available at the project homepage: chadrockey.github.io/TGC-Designer-Tools/Some notable changes: Even more trees are detected in lidar, the forests will be dense now Adds variety of trees for OSM or Lidar. Trees will roughly match their real life counter-parts, but true detail will still need hand tweaks Output .course file sizes are greatly reduced, but Export now takes much longer. This does NOT free up additional Planting Resources. 😿 Fix issue where lowest parts of courses/flood plains may be accidentally removed. We virtually flooded Sweetens Cove... 😠------------------------- Feel free to leave issues for this release in this thread and I'll take a look

Did a small test just now to test the smaller output file sizes I brought in a course last night that is close to me.... After masking it and adding (ZERO) trees from OSM etc the course file was around 17mb Same course, same lidar, I just pulled in the lidar which took forever because it was checking "tree height" Then I went into "Import terrain and features" The first test was to just import the terrain data: the file size on the output of this course (Which is in the mountains) was 7619 kb or 7.6mb I used the mask from last night and duplicated the mask today as close as I could The second test, was to import the terrain data WITH the trees from lidar AND tree variety and the final import size was 7834 kb or 7.8 mb
This brought in what looked like hundreds and hundreds of trees at a cost of 300 sum odd kb
WOW WOW WOW
This may be another game changer

Do we just uninstall the old GUI and install this new one and then follow the same process as before?

Do we just uninstall the old GUI and install this new one and then follow the same process as before? I’ve been releasing them in Standalone/Portable Mode. So just delete the tgc_gui.exe you have now and download a new one.

So if we had an unfinished course in the last version, would we need to re-input the lidar when closing and reopening, or would the data stay the same since it’s already in the course file?
Thanks!

Unless you want more trees, your can skip to Import Heightmap and OSM. That will preserve the lowest parts of your course. You can use the smaller size to compress ANY course at any progress, even Fictional Ones. Just Import and Export.

Does this latest update mean you need to have the course file in the right theme before you import the Lidar? If I change the theme in-game afterwards, does it mess up the tree height & density?

Hey Ken
I tested this the other day, I created the lidar/osm/course file in boreal theme and brought in the trees
Then in the game I switched it to countryside theme to see if it messed up anything but nope, it just changed the trees
So I think you will be good to go

Can you create the terrain using just the Lidar data then add the OSM data later on. I’m assuming OSM creates the splines are these editable once they are in the course file in the editor, like you can tweak the shape of a bunker or green.

Yes you can, you can create a course file with just the lidar data the later can bring in the OSM data on top of the Lidar data And yes all the splines from OSM in the game are editable and you can move, delete, tweak etc
