Had a rare day off and just played Purgatory. Absolutely loved it and the course looks fantastic, Terry! I have two questions: 1) What theme did you use? and 2) Did you use the import feature for the trees?
P.S. Love to see my fellow Hoosiers on this site! I live in the Dallas area now, but I was born and raised in Southern Indiana and went to IU in Bloomington. I'm a novice designer, but I'm hoping to use the new course tool to create RCR's from my home state. I'm working on TPC Craig Ranch right (which is the neighborhood I live in now), but I have already mapped and created the layout for Victoria National. I may eventually take a shot at both the Dye and Donald Ross courses in French Lick and maybe Crooked Stick if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Wonderful. Absolutely in awe of you designers and can't wait to see more Lidar designs following in your wake.

I used the Countryside theme, but lowered the sun angle to 15.2 degrees and a time of 9:36 am to get the look I was after
I drew some areas around some of the trees in OSM and did import probably 15-20% ... I tried to mimic best I could the planting style and the trees on the perimeter of the course and hide the fact that the plot outside the "tree line' was completely barren ... So I used one of the big bushes and planted at the base of the trees like left of 10, 11 13 to give a sense of depth AND hide the perimeter
I didnt get the plant it exactly like I wanted but was pretty happy with the result.... Hole 11 is probably the hole I used the plants and bushes and rocks the most so its one hole on the entire course that
I said "What the heck, lets plant this hole right" Each of those dang rocks planted one by one also
Appreciate the comments gang, I always wanted to build this course, and tickled its getting some plays... Perfect heck no, but I think it turned out pretty good

So far the pictures look great and i can't wait to play it. One small detail and not sure you care but i believe the tees furthest back called the Purgatory tees are black not red. Again that is so small it doesn't really matter at all

Their scorecard shows Purgatory(tips) as red tees ?

Wow Terry (& Eric)... the pics look like IRL photos.... real purdy! You and the other Lidar nerds have raised design to a new level... to a point where I don't even understand the acronyms you're using to describe the processes involved.
Congrats on being the first to publish a Lidar-enhanced course, and of course on putting out such a quality work -- even if your decks suck!

Their scorecard shows Purgatory(tips) as red tees ? Huh...maybe they changed them. I last played it in August last year but not from the tips. Only tried that once and never again I just checked and you are right...maybe i have always been wrong....either way looks great

Thanks for the reply, Terry. The reason for my asking was twofold: 1) I'm currently working on my first RCR of TPC Craig Ranch and when I tried using the import trees feature, it used up so much of the resources that there weren't enough left over to plant properly. I had to start over without the import. 2) I eventually want to do a couple of RCR's of courses from Indiana and loved the way you did Purgatory, so I was curious what theme you used. Thank you for the reply and the insight on the way you were able to achieve the look and feel of that course. I hope some day I can create something that is 1/10th as good as what you and the other designers are able to do. Keep up the great work. I can't wait to see your next creation!

Nice, i am in Zionsville so not too too far from this course Nice. I love south of Indy but lived in the broad ripple area for a few years. Played many many courses throughout the state. Lots of hidden gems!

Lots of hidden gems! i lived in broad ripple for a bit before married life moved me to Zionsville. BIL is a member at Wooland CC so I’ve mostly been playing that but they are switching to Holiday Farms when that gets built so hopefully I’ll get out to different courses this year.
