Both glad and surprised Belmont gets in as an at-large. Puts more pressure on teams like Temple, Arizona State, and Ohio State.

At least according to their new NET rating should have been a no brainer. As a Carolina fan though I am enjoying the "crying over spilled milk" yesterday and today. About the only one I question is UNC Greensboro - But I didn't see what their quadrant records were. Nice to see Wofford and Buffalo get some respect though. Although I fear that my cause the Big 6 Conferences to shy away from them in the coming years. Also, I can't believe that Gonzaga has made the tournament 21 straight times. Either I can't believe the time flew by that quick or that the have been that much of an annual factor for so long.

I’m a bit worried that my first bracket is too logical, lol. I mean, I feel right about most of the picks but we all know that logic means nothing in March!

SO I did my usual first gut reaction to each matchup for my first bracket and I just don't see a spot where a #1 loses until late in the game...
THis is also my least upset minded bracket I think I've ever done. I'm usually a fan of a 12 over 5 and a 13 over so that the 12 and 13 are playing each other. I had to put that in, but I don't have a lot of other upsets....

12 over 5 and 11 over 6 are my favorites to pick. I really don’t count 10 over 7 or 9 over 8 as upsets, and a lot of 4 seeds I just feel too confident about. I think the most obvious pick for a 5/12 this year is Murray State over Marquette. Vermont is also a very good team that would potentially give a 12 v 13 matchup, but I just don’t see them beating FSU. I think if Belmont beats Temple in the First Four, they have a good shot at taking out Maryland, and looking ahead, I think Cincinnati is way underseeded at 7 (Conference tournament winners, beating a very good Houston and finishing at 28-6, should’ve been a 5 IMO), and Wofford could definitely hang with Kentucky.
But... I don’t want to spoil everything in my bracket, so that’s all I’m saying until Thursday

I think the 4's are all week this year with the exception of 1.. so I have three 13's winning. I figured I liked the 5 seed in the round of 32 anyway, so might as well try and snag the upset.
My final four consists of three #1's and a #3.

I just ran through my bracket and does anyone think this is one of the toughest brackets to pick in awhile. Too many "injuries" and "clouds" out there that could fundamentally change results. I found myself harping back to biases I have about teams. I on principle can't matchup UNC and Duke in the National Championship. The state of North Carolina will no longer exist if this matchup would ever occur. Unless of course the game could end in a tie. I do have one question, are brackets due by tonights game or before noon on Thursday? I can't seem to find that info and the results of the 4 games could change how I think things.

You could get Butler in 2010 or Loyola-Chicago or more likely 90% of mid major's who just flop in the first round. Love the drama and chip on their shoulders they bring though. It is definitely the madness in March Madness.

It is definitely the madness in March Madness. Yeah, there are some really fun mid-major teams. I mean, as part of the WCC, despite being ranked #1, Gonzaga is still considered a mid-major (to answer your question, yes, Wofford it mid-major, as they’re outside the ACC, American, Big 10, Big 12, Big East, Pac-12, and SEC). And to add to Butler and Loyola-Chicago, 11 seeded George Mason getting to the final four in 2006 was crazy.

Eric Musselman's strategy to not give a damn about the conference tourney and go "pro style" after clinching the Mountain West in season is interesting. Pro style meaning rest guys, avoid injuries until the "playoffs" start.
I think it cost them an easier first round game with the lower seeding but this team us dynamite in a can. The avg age is almost 24 years old. The bench is light but the starters are strong.

I've tried to get into march madness a few times, but just can't seem to get pumped for college ball like I do the NBA. I follow the top draft prospects, but that's about it. Bet you guys will have fun with the bracket tho I've noticed there's a NHL thread, is there any interest in doing an NBA one? Who's your teams? Or are you guys just enjoying the college game's big moment?

So revisiting my picks the next to last time before the tournament starts. Trying to look for my UMBC pick this year. And I hate to say it Gardner Webb reminds me off them. The only problem I have is they play UVA. They can't have a let down 2 years in a row right? And a team playing against them can't shoot the lights and out hustle them again could they? BTW, LKeet6 , the NBA never appealed to me. I have never liked the style of game at that level. Always been a CBB fan since I was little. I always thought it was a bit odd myself would follow these guys for 3-4 years and then boom just forget about them once they left and graduated. Also, not a big fan of one and done's but that is a discussion for another thread. I guess CBB always seemed liked what the minor leagues were/are to baseball. Much prefer a minor league game than a major league baseball nowadays. But I guess because that is what I grew up around. Edited: I am deeply fearful for my state of all the talk of a UNC - Duke national championship game. While it will probably make for a great story and hype across the nation I am not sure if the governor wouldn't have to call for a state of emergency if this were to happen. Friends will be lost, divorces will be through the roof, children will run their parents to the old folks home. . <<<Sarcasm (in case this doesn't read well).
