Founded in 1906 near the village of Strathmiglo in Aberdeenshire Strathmiglo was originally designed by James Braid as a 9 hole layout on the banks of the North Esk. Over the last few decades the course had fallen into a state of disrepair with very limited resources saw many of the bunkers filled in to reduce maintenance. Recently extensively remodeled to bring the course up to an 18 hole championship standard by young architect Andrew Campbell new holes were added on both sides of the River. A golf course that is as challenging physically as it is golfing wise.
Players can expect to see large elevation changes especially on the first 12 holes. Campbell continued the theme of few well positioned bunkers with him not added to the surviving bunkers and never adding more than 3 bunkers on an individual hole. Visitors as is tradition in Scotland are members for the day and can enjoy the newly built clubhouse with its own locker room exclusively for them as well as the lounge bar where hot meals and locally sourced Beer and Whisky are served. We are looking forward to seeing you soon, Yours Sincerely, Duncan Stewart Club Secretary
This is my new course Strathmiglo GC go and enjoy.

I have just played this course and very enjoyable it was too. In terms of course design it is less flashy than some of the spectacular courses we see these days, but it was a really believable, gentle experience. There was one green, 17 I believe, that was a bit unfair. The bunkers seemed a bit simple and uniform but if based on a real course design that may be the case?
This course seems to have a low profile here, but I would recommend it for your recreational golf.
