This may make me weird but I sketch IN the designer. Sometimes I’ll just make some bunkers or a green or some hills. Play with some views... I’ll make some general ideas on paper but I’ve found translating from paper to the game is harder for me to do. It’s easier for me to put my ideas into the game rather than paper first I'm (sort of) the same. Lots of measuring tool doodles for me. Though this thread is making me want to break out my sketch pad again... I'm also the same... and this thread made me break out the sketch pad again earlier today. I found out I'm not as good at drawing as I once was haha. In fact it looked like a 3 year old's drawing with some slope arrows on it. Sorry fellas I appreciate what you do here but I will not be sharing my sketches at this time. I think it's so bad because I'm not sure what to draw 2D and what to try to show in 3D. I'm actually a relatively good artist but for some reason this kind of sketching is challenging to me. I think I will stick to my approach of simply visualizing what I want to do in my head and then bringing it to life in the designer.

I sometimes sketch (very) basic hole concepts when I'm bored at work, I'm terrible at drawing, my 8 year old daughter is twice the artist I am.
I prefer actually being in the designer. I have a plot which is just basically loads of partially buried objects, random planting and bunkering styles and half finished holes which I use to test out any half baked ideas I have. I usually change the lighting and theme to match what I'm currently working on.

I need to scan all of the ones I've saved but I love sketching golf holes... here's a short par 4.

Would love to see other peoples sketches of fictional courses or hole ideas, so post them if you got them! My sketch of Lassiter Country Club is below. This is the first time I took pencil to paper for an entire course and I found it very useful. Minor changes were made and more detail was added once I started transferring the sketch into the designer, but overall I stayed pretty true to what you see here. Flipping the 9's was the biggest change. This course is published, but I'm open to feedback if anybody has any ideas on how the course could be improved for future releases. I saw this and found it similar to something I sketched out almost 4 years ago ...I never did much with it .... but it made me look at it again ... which is cool ... I love doodling up courses, before I start into the editor .... This was pulled into TGC 2019 from TGC1 ... this was about as far as I had done ... It was just under 6000 yards ....

Here's just a small 3 hole routing on an island. I draw stuff like this all the time.

Really slow day at work... this driveable par 4 is set in a midwest plains environment This is nearly identical to a hole I laid down in the designer the other day. Mine is more of a drive and a pitch and doesn't include the FW bunker, but very close to this

Really slow day at work... this driveable par 4 is set in a midwest plains environment I love this hole overall. I think the right side maybe could be guarded a little better. I think I might move the tees to the left some and back up the bunker, more of a 'you have to roll by the bunker if you want the angle'. Just my thoughts. I'm going for the green anyway so no matter to me! Love the sketches guys

One last sketch. Thinking about submitting this one to the Lido Competition this year.... Ravine/baranca dictates play however, you need to know the pin location to know from which angle you need to approach the green from. Even if you get your angles wrong, there are multiple was for recovery. Bunkers seemlessly meld into tho ravine/barranca which provides a very natural overall feel of the hole.
