Thanks for the feedback. I will definitely keep pin placement and firmness in mind as I setup the US Open version of Pebble.

Didn't want to play Pebble twice (despite it being a wicked good course) so we slotted it in here since it's usually tore up by you guys. We'll have a tougher track ready to go for the US Open. It also opened up a good prize/theme for the Major Championship course contest. Carry on!

In my opinion, there is really nothing you can do to make a course more difficult for the top 15-20 players in the game that isn't likely to also increase the gap between them and everyone else.
Tucked pin placements is one thing, narrowing fairways and combining this with firmer faster conditions will also help since it is hard to control roll out from the rough, but firmer fairways also make drives longer leaving shorter clubs into the hand when the player is firing at the tucked pins.
Anyway a US Open version of Pebble would be great for the TGC community even if not used on tour. I don't think you need to put the greens much faster than 170 something, just use a very firm set up. People can always make a round play at 187 in the settings.

It would be easy to tweak this course for a us open version if the designer wanted too. Id up it to 187 keep fairways at normal-firm . not going too firm and firm up the greens and bang them on 187s then just redo the pins once the greens are set because if you just change the sets the greens dont play true as the lines go funky. Could also change the light rough splines to heavy rough. Then it would be a proper test

Solid point. Since Pebble Beach plays so short... You kind of almost have to put the fairway roll-out set to soft to make the course play longer. Narrowing fairways by 10-20% will also help. With no 1st cut. And I would set heavy rough roll to 0. So when I snipe hook one I won't get saved by a few bounces back to the fairway.

Work trip got delayed a bit...so I was able to get in my rounds.
Time for a mini-novel since its my last tourney for many weeks...
Knew I would make the cut this week since the 8 holes where water is in play; 7 of them, the water is on the right.
The Good...
-Great replica by the designer. One of the better ones around. -Good tempo in Round 1. -Respectable finish for first time in awhile. -No 3-putts. -Good to see some wind finally. Would be all for having one very high wind round each tournament.
The Bad/B*tching Time
-Missed (4) putts inside 11 feet in Round 1 that will cost me a top 10. -No fault of the designer...but if hole locations are going to be easy...VERY disappointing to see soft greens all (4) rounds. Throwing darts at the pins for 72 holes straight is so blahhhhhh. -I am still stuck in struggle city with tempo. Good in round 1...tolerable and half decent in rounds 2 and 3...then round 4 comes...birdie 1 thru 4 and birdie 14 thru 18 with not 1 fast in those stretches. Yet holes 5 thru 13 were an abomination. 90% of all shots were fast downswings and fore left, including a very fast cya freaking later on #5. Just makes no sense. -Low wind. Ughhhh. Doesn't get more boring then a low wind round. I shot -15 in round 2 and picked up maybe 1 shot on the top 25. Yippee!
End rant.
-50 and good for a T-21st.
In summary, great rendition of Pebble Beach...just annoying settings were setup on the easy side. But I'm also the same nutjob who only enjoys difficult courses and extremely tough conditions. Can't please everyone.
Good luck to everyone while I'm gone!

Too bad you won’t be around for next weeks. It’s got trickier pins and greens with tiers plus a ton of OB. I imagine the cut will be a good 4-5 shots worse than these past two weeks.

61-63-62-60 for my best score of the season. Too bad two of those rounds will be wiped from the record in a few days.
Should have looked at the leaderboard before playing the final two rounds. I could have saved the "don't have 1 total disastrous round" tournament for one that I actually make the cut in.
Odd feeling being more disappointed by how I hit my drives than how I hit my putts, but I was way off with some of my drives in the 2nd round.
