I just wanted to post this thread to bring about some dialogue on the use of spin in TGC2019, mostly concerning backspin. Before the patch you could get what seemed like pretty easy backspin on flop shots and I am glad that they fixed it because it was not realistic and I do enjoy the way flop shots currently play, BUT I feel like there needs to be a way to add backspin to shots. Especially with wedges (Pitching wedge, sand wedge, lob wedge, etc.) As we know, in real life, backspin is possible and is used frequently especially on the PGA Tour as a strategic play/shot. I am not complaining in any way about the current way the game plays at all, please do not interpret that. All I am saying is let's start some dialogue, would you want backspin on TGC2019? Or would you not want it?

It certainly wouldn't be unrealistic to receive backspin on normal shots using wedges. Only recently I had an opportunity to play for backspin where I was 91 yards from the pin. The green was running uphill from the fringe to at least 5+ yards passed the pin, wind slightly behind not blowing more than 3mph. My LW having a carry distance of 94 yards was lofted up to take around 4 yards off this distance. My ball pitched around 2 yards passed the pin and stopped dead. I was left with a 3 inch downhill putt. The fact that I received no backspin on a slope this steep was very unrealistic. Had I pitched 2 yards short of the pin, I'm sure I would have received some backspin.

Exactly my point, that would be exact situation where backspin should occur, I feel like on wedges when you want to promote backspin you should be able to put a certain amount of loft on it which would promote a little backspin, anything higher than that medium backspin, and all the way at the top to promote extreme backspin but hey it's just a thought.

Though I would edit this post after what happened to me today, 3rd round CC-A Tour. 2nd shot to green, Par 4 hole, everything calculated I was left with 108 yards to pin. The green was running back to me, so I was hitting onto an uphill slope, but as the greens were firm I figured the ball would skip on a yard and stop on the slope, so I made no adjustment for loft as the carry yardage of the club I was using was 108 yards. I hit the ball pretty sweetly, the ball landed one yard from the pin and span all the way off the green. So why didn't I receive backspin on the example above, especially as I was hitting with a shorter club. I love this game, but I think the game goes over-the-top in trying to force you away from the pin as much as it can. These examples are typical, no backspin on the first as the ball would have finished close to the pin. 2nd example, I pitched close to the pin so the game initiated back spin to force me away from the pin. This happens too many times to be a coincidence.

I completely feel your pain friend haha
