Hi! My handicap keeps seeming to go up even though I get scores under par. Haven't figured out what makes a handicap go down. My last 20 rounds have all been par or under par. I am level 50 and my current handicap is 9.5 approximately. I usually play medium to hard difficulty for the PGA basic courses. I wud like to get my handicap down around 5 or 6....wondering how I do that? Doesn't seem right my handicap keeps going up to where it is now at 9.5. even though I get good scores. Hoping some of you can help me out. Thanks.

This means your handicap is +9.5 as in you are "averaging" -9 under a round so if you were playing a scratch golfer (handicap 0) you are giving him 9 shots per round.Hope that helps.

So mine is +25.3. Does that mean my average is 25 under par per round? I wish. Not trying to be a smarta$$. But I would really love to understand how to interpret the number. Not a real life golfer.

Playing on aristida this week brought mine to +31. Just proving that it means nothing.

Its not average, as a mathematical calculation, I meant “average” as in some kind of mystical number plucked from my hairy butt hole.

That explains it. I always thought that +positive was bad and -was good. So in real life I score on average bout 92 for an 18 hole round. Our course here is a Par 72. So does that mean my handicap is +20 Or -20?

-20
but to make it alittle more confusing, the minus is almost never used so when talking to people you would say you have 20 in hcp.
but the + is used when you have players that is better than scratch players, although ridiculous handicaps like in the game say +30 is obvoiusly not possible IRL. very very good players can maybe reach about +5-6.
Pros dont have a handicap, but Tiger woods at his best would maybe have been around +7 or so if he had

It's not strictly an average, more like a potential score. It takes into account course difficulty. So if you shoot -10 over and over again on a hard course, your handicap will approach +20. But if you shoot -10 over and over on a very easy course, it will be closer to +10
They actually calculated tigers handicap throughout the years and at his best he was a little better than a +10.
The simplest way to think of a handicap is it's your estimated best possible score given your most recent rounds.

Mine currently sits at +47. Still waiting on my round of 36 though.
I've dubbed it the 'aristida effect'
For some reason that course got handicapped as wayyy harder than it is and is the reason why mine is sitting where it is
