I was taught by my father and was pretty good. Stopped playing when I got older but once I had my first son I taught him when he was probably around 8. He is a bright kid and did pretty good. We stopped playing for some reason so the other day I pulled the board out and we played. I had to remind him of what the pieces do again but after that he did really well. I was amazed because he is 10 now so he probably has not played in about a year. I beat him but it was not easy. I had him DL a chess game on the Xbox and he plays a little here and there. Certainly a great game for kids to learn. Teaches them a lot about strategic thinking and making decisions under pressure.
Anyone else play or teach their kids to play?

I play chess. I was taught by my 5th grade teacher Mr. Malone. I'm ok as a player i guess, i never got heavy into it but i did play for our high school team for a year.
Neither of my kids were interested.

Really like chess. It became a bit dull for me but when my buddy challenged me to chess 960 through an app it breathed a new life into the game. If you guys haven't tried playing with the the 960 rules i highly reccomend it. So many different opens and options. It can really open up the game.

I spent 10 months in the hospital in 2017 (feb 10-nov28). After my 1'st month I ordered an iPad online. Searched for some decent games to download. In the end I wound up playing a LOT of Forge of Empires (still do..even this morning I do my rounds collecting on my buildings and stuff) and a chess game I downloaded (don't remember which one). A lot of hours put into those two games.
I remember as a kid attempting to play it. When in the hospital things came back to me..."oh yeah he can only move in this direction" etc...
When not playing (waiting for the nurse to show with the drugs, food to arrive etc lol) chess I found myself reading wiki's on moves and strategies. Was blown away how deep it really is.
Need to download another chess game. Kind of missing it.

I love the game of chess. I was taught by my father, as a child, and I have many fond memories of us playing. In high school, I was on the chess team, and the biggest game I remember playing was during a tournament, at some mall, where the marquee game was broadcast on a big overhead projector screen to everyone watching. I think I lost that game, haha. And yes, I am that old, we used overhead projectors back then. lol
I have a couple neat collectable chess boards and pieces that I have picked up in travels, one is entirely carved of onyx, another one, everything is carved from jade.
Nowadays, I rarely play it, but I absolutely love playing strategy turn based games on the computer. I also play a lot of Magic: The Gathering, which uses a lot of the same strategies and thought processes.
